John Stones

morning chaps, well something needs to happen sooner than later? there is info floating round that the fee £44m is agreed but now sorting out the add-ons to take it to the £50m that everton want so fingers crossed either way this is agreed or we move on and get someone else as pep seems determined to get a new CB. what about mustafi as an alternative?

He had a fantastic second half if I remember correctly. The first not so much, but then Everton were awful that first 45.

Apart from going missing in a basic easy defensive position & costing them the game at the end. Martial had strolled past him a few mins earlier but still he didn't see the danger. It's as bad as defending gets, at any level. You can't just ignore stuff like this, it has to matter. It has to matter for the career of the player involved. If it doesn't matter, he will never get any better.

But when it's someone else's team, stuff like that is dead easy to ignore, as with people watching Otamendi in Spain expecting that he'll suddenly change overnight & we'll just get the good bits.

If Stones did what he did v Utd in a City shirt, his name would be mud on here & he'd struggle to recover our trust.

This stuff should not be ignored, it's key to his future, here or at Everton or anywhere.

Not worth £50M. That is guaranteed 20 goal striker or dominating midfielder money. Above £50M is world beater type money. Unless, and it's a big caveat, Pep thinks that Stones is going to be the next Busquets, then I just don't see it.

The world has gone crazy because the Brits have Sky money. If the Sheikh is smart, he will continue to do it the way he is doing it with Pep now...£150M on half a team full of experience and proven youth, with possibly one marquee signing every year. Next year, this SQUAD is going to be scary good, with or without Stones, which tells me he is not worth the aggro. He is unsettled at Everton, and spent the latter part of the season on their bench and England's. Not sure how that INCREASES his value??!
Can't agree with that. £50m is simply £30m from ten years ago it a little less. It's Rio money.

Yeah we discussed that winning goal at the time. He was culpable as were others.

I didn't see the game but I agree that he's not an outstanding CB. Pep will have a challenge making this guy any good.

If this guy wasn't any good then two of the best managers in the world wouldn't have gone for him.

Absolutely spot on. Ferdinand's final 'book value' in the rag accounts was £34M (Leeds waived some add-ons for cash when they were hurtling towards the financial wall) and that amount, in 2016, would equate to £50.8M. If that's what the City hierarchy think they're getting he will be worth the cash.

lets face it the market has gone mad so if Pep and the club think hes going to be what we need then we have to pay it simple as.

Shaw and Wio were £30 odd mil, david luiz was £40 odd mil so maybe £40/50 odd mil for Stones is not too bad ;-)

And if Pogs goes for £100m then the focus and pressure and media hype will be fully on him and Stones coming to us could slip under the radar as such.

I keep seeing this argument. With the start of the PL upon us, if he is worth it, why have we simply not paid it and started preparing for the season with JS integral to those preps

If Pep wants Stones he sees something in the player that suits a variety of systems he wants us to play. I don't care how much we need to pay. The more need for the player the better chance we will get him. I can't judge Stones as I can our own defenders but I and many on here know enough to form an opinion about him. But we look with different eyes than the ones that matter judging him. Not worried if we continue with what we have, Denayer for Demichelis and Adarabioyo a real talent.

maybe the club dont quite value him at £50m and are hankering for a deal but Everton want the full 50m and so hold all the cards dont they. I agree that if hes going to be an integral part of the team, then he really needs to get to us asap really.

I agree that we dont want to pay £50m because he's not worth that. Also agree and have stated all along, Everton are in the driving seat with this. The only crumb of comfort I take is that we must feel Everton are willing to compromise otherwise we would have put up or moved on.
