I made this point earlier in the thread about him using us to get a bigger contract. If he is of such value to chelsea why does he need to use another clubs interest as leverage to gain more money and if he loves the club as much as Chelsea fans etc claim he does why is he asking for it?

If all the Chelsea supporters, manager, chairman etc are to believed the conversation would be a simple one. Terry would ask for more money and he wouldnt ask for alot more because he loves the club and wouldnt take the poss, the club would give it to him because he is a symbol and the heart of the club, everyones a winner, we all go home the world keeps turning, no need for press releases, public pressure on him to stay etc.

This hasnt happened, i dont know the reasons and we may never know the reasons. As I keep on saying Chelsea created this, was it to warn us off, was it to heap public pressure on the captain to stay?

If he was so committed to the cause why is this needed. From a Chelseas fans point of view there is many more questions than answers in this whole saga no matter how it plays out.

If he stays and I have said on many occassions that he will, he clearly isnt as valued at Chelski as he thinks he should be or this whole saga wouldnt be necessary IMO.

I think thats what barry was bought for. He can lead the team gerrard-esq style but we need someone in there to marshal the defence. We need someone well-respected, vocal, strong tackler, good header and can play the ball into feet.

I'd say they both fit your description pretty well - I don't really see the need for Terry. Lescott and Ned/Kompany looks an extremely credible alternative to me

I really see the need for Terry. A natural leader, winner, vocal and can calm any situation. We imploaded (sp?) too many times in defence last season, conceded too many goals from set pieces and looked ragged pretty much all season. I agree that Ned's and Kompany could do this but only in a few years time. We need what Terry has got NOW if we want to reach the top4 this season

Look people, John Terry was never ever going to come straight out and say he was never going to leave Chelsea. He needed us to maintain our interest and he needed Chelsea to think it was a real possibility he could leave.

If he came out at day one and said he was never ever going to leave Chelsea do you think they would offer him a new deal? I don't get why this is so hard to understand.

Of course this scenario is a possibility, but that doesn't mean your analysis is definitely correct. Maybe he's a bloke who's just had a stratospheric new pay offer that will set him up for life as far more immensely rich than he would have been, and he's weighing up whether taking up the new challenge that goes along with that against a natural reluctance publicly to burn his bridges with the club where he's spent most of his career and where he has an iconic status. And if that's true, then of course he way well end up staying at Chelsea and of course he's entitled to take his time to decide what's right for him. After all, given his age and injury record, the deal (whether at City or Chelsea) he signs in the next week or two will probably be his last major contract as a professional footballer.

On balance, I go for my version rather than yours. One factor that makes me do so is that City evidently believe that his interest in us is genuine. I have enough faith in the competence of the people at the club to consider that they wouldn't take this view without fairly sound reasons. (What they are we don't know, as they're not public). You may beg to differ, which is your prerogative, of course.

On another note my just text me asking if we have vidic as a back up plan if the terry deal doesnt happen. Oh how we've got them scared.
A couple of years ago they would of laughed if we said we wanted one of thier players now thier scared

if we fail to snag the real john terry, we still need to get a player in the mold of him. im very short on viable options to suggest.

Depends really if your looking for a replacement centreback or a replacement leader, if its a leader then the 4 below are positive influences on there sides due to clear leadership strengths as well as a good technical level (2 CB, 1 CM, 1 RB)

• Gerrard (Red Dippers)
• Puyol (Barca)
• Zanetti (Inter)
• Bordon (Schalke)

Not a definitive list but good leaders on the pitch.

(actually now I thought about it for a moment or two, Bordon would not be a bad option on a few levels. Brazilian (keeps Robbie happy if they get on), Centreback (a position we are looking to fill), 33 (would be a good age to come in for a season or two and help develop Ned, Mcgivern, Mee, Richards etc as his successor) Strong in the air and a leader, also probably at an age and a club where we could prise him away quite easily ?)

The deal's not dead yet and even if he stays, we certainly got close.

Sorry but fail to see what difference getting close makes. tell you what when Drogba is running through in the last minute of the cup final can we stop play and say sorry old son but we nearly had terry covering that run so if you would just give us the ball back there a good fellow.

My point about getting close was in answer to your unfounded proclaimation that he never had any intention to come.

I believe that is not the case.

And the deal is not dead yet. That's a fact, not an opinion.

So what's the basis for your assertion that he never had any intention of coming to City?
