This is no different to the Kaka, im staying at AC forever and want to be the captain, statement! Look what happened there.

Talk is very cheap nowadays in football.

He does not say that he has no interest in joining us, just that he is commited to Chelsea! He is under contract to them, what do you want him to say? I hate it here and cant wait to get out?

I will give this one up come the end of the transfer window if he hasnt signed, not on the 26th July!

'kin ell ive heard it all now

Lets be honest

Okay, so we've missed out on another large name target, but possibly the most ambitous 'realistic' target we have set ourselves, and how long did it take him to turn it down? He can state that there was never any serious thought of him leaving Chelsea but I think everyone will know that is bullshit of the finest order. We may never know how close he came, but taking three or four weeks for some so 'dedicated' to his club as him suggests that we were very very close

Its a set back, but combine this with the players we have signed (and never in my dreams would I think of us buying 4 ten million pound plus players in a summer a couple of years ago) and the possible players we are linked with, not to mention the sniping of Fergie and it would seem to me that we are no longer a small little team. People are taking us seriously now and its about bloody time.

I'm sure Hughes and Cook are already at work on the other targets (Lescott and Toure if press is to be believed) as I'm sure that the chances of getting Terry was always gonna be more of an off chance than a certainty. I believe in City and think that its not the time to start slating us for missing out on a target here and there. Lets not forget that Ned is an established under 21 player already tipped for the top, and Dunney has been an international defender (not to mention player of the year 4 times) so its not all bad at the back.

Roll on the seasons start!

Do you say "hopefully" because you don't want any blame to fall on Hughes (i.e. he's not a big enough name?), or because you believe the Sheikh is going to do a moonlight flit one day soon?

Not sure what you mean, so I'll clarify...

I hope that the Sheikh doesn't allow too many more failures to be considered 'small stuff' that he doesn't need to 'sweat' as was described, and that he will get to the point where he has had enough and does what needs to be done.

Whatever that may be :-)

You consider this a failure?

What have i said that isnt the truth?

Some posters on here are starting to sound a bit arrogant. We have no god-given right to sign every player that we flash our bank balance in front of. If it were that simple then football would not be worth watching. Allegiances, friends, family, agent, fans, lifestyle, facilities, location, weather, schools, amenities, crime rates, gut instict, prejudices, misconceptions, fear, uncertainty and doubt might be just some of the considerations facing a player when deciding to join us or not. Some footballing reasons of course but many not. We have to offer far more than just money and promise. Some players will make the calculation of all the contributing factors and end up with a positive conclusion and others won't. That's life. Even if we one day become the biggest club in the world this will still hold true.

This 'they must come because we offered them so much money' mentality is just bollox frankly. The Sheikh will have been around the block and will understand that not everything in life revolves around money. It helps of course! But ultimately you cannot simply buy some people. They will make their own decisions based on a variety of factors and priorities unique to that individual.

Eventually the likes of Terry will be more likely to come but we have to walk the walk as well as talk the talk. Terry never fitted the likely profile of someone that we are able to attract at this stage of our development. Worth a try and a decent measure of progress perhaps, but we learn from this as with Kaka/ Eto'o and we move on.

would have been a great leader and solidified the back line - temporarily - but it would have thrown our wage system way out of wack IMO. We will still get a CB or two, perhaps not with Terry's pedigree but players that will help us.

Because Chelsea have better players than us. If Terry doesn't play for Chelsea they have Carvalho and Alex we'd have Dunne and Richards. Spot the difference!

your comment simply states chelsea,s squad quality and not terry,s then.......

The stats don't tell the full story. What teams did Chelsea play when Terry was injured who did they play when he was fit. If for example he is fit when Chelsea play the Twats at their place or if he's injured when they played WBA at home.

i wonder were spursmad123 is hiding.
he was so confident that terry would leave.
i have told you guys not to trust spursmad.
good luck to fight for 5 th spot
