I've not read the 300 pages of posts on here, so not sure what the rest of you think.

Personally, I think Terry is a Chelsea player and we shouldn't be trying to prise him out with cash.

If he knocked at the door, I'd be delighted. But not comfortable with trying to use financial muscle in a way that we've scorned our rivals for over the years.

The Sun can poke it though. We're big enough for anyone now. Just need to be big enough to play fair.

EDIT: ...and not be used by money-hungry players in their wage battles.

Tend to agree, but it would help clarify the situation if JT came out and said he was staying. Which leaves the two obvious scenarios. He's ours or he's using us as a bargaining tool to bulk out his bank account.

Re: Chelsea reject Terry offer [Merged]

Chelsea are back thursday for pre-season and get the feeling we will be hearing from terry then.

Re: Chelsea reject Terry offer [Merged]

Wed all like to think that we are classy enough to do it the right way but if we do then someone else wont, the "big four" have been bullying people for years so we have to do the same to them.

Just cos we dont do it, doesnt mean that they will stop doing it and then they will just carry on winning. This thing with JT is Chelsea's mess they brought it into the public domain now its up to them to contain it, we havent said anything or been drawn, we havent made a public play for the player, ti was them who made this a public situation out of a private bid.

Like most people have said a 1 minute sound bite from JT saying he isnt coming to us makes all this go away at the moment the noises coming from Ancelotti and Kenyon sound more like they are trying to convince themselves than anyone else.

Re: Chelsea reject Terry offer [Merged]

Lifelong Chelsea fan here.

First of all, I want to congratulate City on being on the pinnacle of reaching the big time. I think that massive investment in City will be good for the league as it'll bring world class players in from abroad and will also mean there will be five teams challenging for the title in a few years. I know exactly how it feels to see the team you have followed all your life, get such luck, and I feel every team should have the opportunity (apart from maybe United) :p

However, I think your time is up on Terry. Kenyon has obviously been in contact with Terry, and he has made a statement saying basically the club doesn't want to sell and the player doesn't want to leave. They are the two people you need to get okays from. It's just not happening this time.

I do find it amusing that most of this whole Terry saga was based on Newspaper speculation which everyone is believing but when a Chief Executive and Manager make quotes in a press conference which are then printed in the Sun it is false? I feel it's a little ironic.

Regardless, I can see your back line being Maicon, Lescott, Puyol and Bridge next season and I reckon you'll knock either Liverpool or Arsenal out of the top four. If you don't, you'll be very close.

To be honest mate we're the last ones to believe newspaper speculation alone, given the huge amount of players who's names are plucked from nowhere and linked with us on a daily basis - but the story of the rejected bid was on your official site, so we know that much happened - and after that it was the silence of Terry that spoke the most volumes, not anything in the press.

However I agree that we most likely won't get him and I think we should drop it now and focus our attention on other defensive targets.

Thought this might be of interest from MEN.....................

CITY are at the centre of a £65m twin transfer chase. The Blues are intent on pursuing £40m-rated England skipper John Terry until the player himself makes it plain he wants to stay at Chelsea.

And they are also hoping that a big storm brewing in Barcelona will deliver £25m striker Samuel Eto'o into their hands.

Barca manager Pep Guardiola wants Eto'o out of the club and City are waiting in the wings to snap him up.

The double Champions League-winning striker has dug in his heels over his demands for a severance payment, and claims he is prepared to see out the final year of his contract if necessary.

City have already had a £25m bid for Eto'o accepted and have made the player an acceptable offer. But until the row over the payment is sorted out, the Blues cannot be entirely sure of landing the Cameroon star.

Guardiola is reported to be furious with club president Joan Laporta for allowing the argument between club and player to escalate.

Cash

He wants the cash from City to fund the Catalans' pursuit of Valencia's David Villa.

The pressure on Barca has grown this week with deadly rivals Real Madrid unveiling £80m former United star Cristiano Ronaldo.

With reports in Spain suggesting that Barca are around £350m in debt, the fee from City is vital for the club's rebuilding plans, as they also look to land Liverpool's Javier Mascherano.

Talks have already begun with Valencia over Villa and as soon as a deal is agreed, Barca are expected to come to a quick conclusion with Eto'o.

But City are still not giving up on their hopes of having the England captain in their ranks by the time of next summer's World Cup finals.

Chelsea have rebuffed a bid of £28m plus Daniel Sturridge, and new manager Carlo Ancelotti insisted Terry would remain captain "forever."

But, until Terry himself publicly commits himself to Chelsea, City will not give up the chase.

Said Ancelotti: "Terry is a symbol of this team. He will be captain next season. He said he wants to stay forever and we want to keep him for ever."

City are also still wading through the complexities of signing Carlos Tevez but reports that they have enquired about Barcelona defender Carles Puyol are wide of the mark

Did you think it would be of interest in every single thread on the forum?

Re: Chelsea reject Terry offer [Merged]

It wasnt newspaper reports that brought this to the fore. We made a PRIVATE bid and then you chose to PUBLICLY reject it on your website.

From that point we have said nothing and made no statement yet your club still feels the need to tell us he isnt coming, all it would take to make this go away is for your captain to come out and say no not interested and tommorow this is forgotten but he hasnt done that yet and im sure your people know thats all it would take and are rpessuring him to do so and when he does it will go away.

Ive said it in previous posts, this is Chelsea's mess and its up to you to clear it up, if you had just said no privately like we made our bid privately then none of this would have happened.
