Is this actually possible? With John Terry you would be two players away from being contenders...

I've seen this story somewhere else tonight but all I can remember is they put a slightly different slant on it and were a bit selective about the MH quotes. I don't know when he is meant to have said this either because at the Tevez PC he was more or less declining to discuss the matter. Can't recall where I saw it.

Guessing thats another center back. Don't know where the other player is going to go.

You could improve on both of your center backs in my opinion. Perhaps a new right back too?

This ought to be big news, shirley, because it's something new at last.

I don't remember him saying that in the PC, but I could be wrong. He did pointedly refer to Terry as a chelsea player 'at the moment' twice, and do an awfully good impression of twitcher 'of course, any manager would like him in his team'. everything suggests he has good reason to believe terry is up for this move. did you see the article about kenyon possibly moving on? is it a co-inky-dink that Kenyon very publicly flatly denied Terry was for sale, whilst others in the chelsea heirachy are said to be undecided?

I was a bit annoyed at Hughes for his Redknapp impression, then remembered how they courted Danny "Not in it for the money" Sturridge, and thought fuck it, go for it.

I have no time for Chelski. They are deranged.

Yeh. I just don't like our manager to do a Redknapp. Buit because t was Chelsea I think we can let him off this once.

Obviously its the pot calling the kettle black but if chelsea arent up for selling JT they could see their arse about Hughes' comments in the press and claim our player was 'tapped up'. I dont think we've heard the last of this. But money talks and the arabs can sink anyting roman throws at them.

"Terry needs us: City can offer
him new lease of life, claims daring Hughes

By Ian Ladyman Last updated at 1:55 AM on 15th July 2009

Manchester City went public over their pursuit of England captain John Terry when manager Mark Hughes urged the Chelsea defender to move to Eastlands.

In an interview that is bound to incense Chelsea, City boss Hughes followed up his capture of Carlos Tevez - a player also coveted by the London club - with what will come across as a clear plea to Terry to walk away.

Hughes said: 'We would like to think we could offer him a different challenge. From my own experience, when you have been with a club a long time, you maybe get to a point when you need a new challenge, when you think a change of scenery would just re-ignite certain things within you.'

Despite having a £30million bid for the 28-year-old rejected by Chelsea, City have been encouraged by Terry's apparent refusal to say publicly that he wants to stay at his one and only club.

As reported in Sportsmail, Terry has been seriously tempted by City - and wages of £200,000 a week - since their interest became known to him in the January transfer window.

But City's relentless pursuit has irritated the Stamford Bridge hierarchy. They are sure to be livid at Hughes's latest comments and may even choose to interpret them as an illegal approach to the player.

'It is not a question of money,' said Hughes. 'It's about a different challenge, a different stage in his life and career, and maybe that's why there hasn't been a response because John is seriously thinking in those terms.

'I went through that process myself and I can understand if that is the way he is thinking. We made an offer to Chelsea and I've made known my feelings about John Terry. He's an outstanding player and an outstanding person. We'd like the opportunity to speak to him but as yet that hasn't been forthcoming.'

City were last night held up trying to complete the signing of Arsenal striker Emmanuel Adebayor for £25m due to a hitch over personal terms.

A common misconception amongst our fans (mostly when having a pop at Twitcher) and the media, is that this kind of thing constitutes tapping up. It doesn't. We've made an official bid and now Hughes is saying how great he is and that maybe he'd fancy a new challenge. He's speaking in very general terms. Nothing wrong with that.

If we'd gone behind Chelsea's backs and met him to discuss possible contract terms, then that would be tapping up. This isn't. (I'm aware that such a meeting may have happened in Dubai, but if it did, it happened in private and can never be proved, unlike Chelsea's hamfisted meeting with Cole in a public restaurant).

Twitcher is a master at this and has yet to be done for tapping up. And Hughes's words sound like a very carefully drafted statement. Our lawyers will have been all over this to ensure that he said enough without saying too much.

In short, Chelsea can fuck right off, the hypocritical cockney twats.

p.s. Peter Kenyon is on Jeff Randell Live on Sky News tonight. May be worth watching.

Definitely nothing illegal about Hughes' comments. Note how he said we can offer a change of scenery, rather than "John wants a change of scenery". All of the comments were carefully worded to avoid incrimination but reading between the lines we know exactly what the deal is here. Mr Chelsea wants out

On one hand i'm so excited\about who we are bringing in and what we can do next year, but on the other hand it kind of feels like cheating a bit. We are cherry picking players and bringing them in instead of developing them ourselves. Obviously i shouldn't complain but i love the stage we are in now. I always thought it would be boring being a rag fan always winning everything and i loved our unpredictability, but clearly that will all go away soon and we should hopefully start winning things. Silly argument, it's just the mentality of a City fan i suppose

You know, I really get the feeling that Terry was the one that is tapping up City. No rational organization would do what we've done - bid after rejected bid, no indication that the club's face was willing to go - just on a whim.. thinking Well, maybe we could pry him away..

I think Terry sent word through back channels to make a move for him, and exactly how to do it, in order to get out of there, make some serious coin, find a new challenge, all while saving face that he is not just chasing the money.

These statements read like a script written by Terr's publicists.

I agree. He will certainly have had some say in this, because otherwise City could have scuppered the entire deal by seriously pissing him off with these comments.

This is all now about how City and Terry engineer a way out for him from Chelsea. We've probably agreed to look like the bad guys and take the fall for him so that he can maintain some sort of image.

Right ive got a little bit of info here.

A local source has had a txt from a smack head Rag Defender telling him JT is desperate to move to us and has really fell out with the board at Chelski. A deal could be done very quickly. Im not a WUM im just passing on info that i have been given.

More info to follow when he knows more.

I think now is the time for Chelsea to allow him to speak to us. Lets see where we all stand.

I think they possibly know what might happen, so are trying their best not to allow it.

I do expect them to put out a statement blaming JT and saying it was his request to speak to us, to try and save face in front of their fans.
