Well, let's put it this way. If Storrie has to sell because of external pressure, then he has to achieve the best price possible. If city offer more than the others, he could accept our bid and deny the others. johnson would then publicly have to refuse our approach if he didnt want to join. chelsea would probably match our offer, increasing the pressure on liverpool to up theirs. storrie has no obligation as such to offer johnson the move he wants unless he has made an agreement previously to do so. that may be why the champs league comments are significant.
my gut feeling is that he would expect us to offer a significantly higher amount because he is looking to put pressure on the other two clubs to match it, but city have a fair idea that johnson would choose liverpool, and won't get involved.
