Johnson would significantly improve our defense. Imagine him, Micah, and Zab all battling for a RB spot. We would have a lot of depth in the area.

Does anyone not think that if we're going for Johnson, there might be some truth in the Lescott-Richards swap deal rumours? I don't think Zab will get too many games in midfield anymore and i don't envisage us going into the new season with 3 players fighting for right-back... 2 players for every position is considered to be good, 3 is too much.

If we can bring Lescott and Johnson in at the expense of Richards (plus a few bob), then that would be great business in my opinion.

What Richards is worth now is far below what I expect he'll be worth in a few years.

I'd rather loan him to Everton for two years than sell him.

Johnson would be an astute signing, no doubt about it. he is how i picture richards will be a few years.

yep, surely he is at a low ebb. as we don't need the cash, what is there to be gained by moving him on permanently? if everton want him more than the money, that's surely because they also think he is undervalued at present.

We can't hold on to every underperforming player we currently have just in case they turn into world beaters. Sometimes Hughes needs to make tough decisions and back his judgement. If he feels Micah won't become a top 4 defender then he needs to let him go now, and I'll back his judgement... not least because it's my opinion too.

the choice between 'holding on to' or 'getting rid' is a false one, on the continent, many players spend several years on loan in the early stages of their career.

the wider concern is that we are looking at losing sturridge, richards and hart, three outstanding english prospects. it seems very short-sighted.

I'm not talking about holding onto Micah in case he turns into a world beater. I'm talking about holding onto him because I expect him to be an extremely good player for club and country in the near future.

Few people seem to have formed an opinion on a 20 year old defender because of one poor season (after a couple of season of overachievement for a player of his age). I think they are very premature in their judgements.
