Why is it people tend to believe all the good press, but when it's not in favour/against us you label it as bullshit?
what bad press exactly?
I remember Ireland was going to Arsenal in January, most people on here monged out. But when were linked to players ala Johnson we tend to give in and believe it.

Just a thought.

Re: Johnson (merged)

Amuses me, Johnson after years of being a nobody suddenly after one solid season turns into flavour of the month and we easily write off, zab ( one of our best this year) and Micah who ok has had a bit of a shitter this year but still at a tender age has had more good seasons than Johnson has. It will take more than a few assists against a pub team to make me believe we need a new RB.

It's a good point you make but the fact is that we really need to compete for a Champions League spot this season and our current defence let in 50 league goals, against 24 by United, 27 by Liverpool, 24 by Chelsea and 37 by Arsenal. I know he had a bad season but that's not all down to Dunney. The whole defence needs strengthening if we're going to compete, and that definitely includes right back.

I agree, defence is our weakest position.

Re: Johnson (merged)

you could point to the previous seasons stats, where more or less the same personnel conceded far less. makes me think it's been down to the way we play and the added pressure of expectation on the individuals. micah looked like a potential top class player the season before last, and i don't think that kind of potential disappears completely in the space of a season. maybe he won't be the new Thuram, as some of us thought, but surely he will mature into a much better player than we've seen this year.... better than johnson in a few years time? I wouldn't bet against it.

What we don't need is people getting ahead of themselves. Comfortable top 6 finish next season/challenging top 4 like Villa did this season. But doubt we'll surpass Arsenal just yet.

Say we were another teams fans with fuckloads of money, a year ago we would be harping on about signing Richards for 20-30m and Johnson would have been laughed at. Hes a kid who got thrown in at the deep end and since then has not been out of the team. Elsewhere he would be given time to develop but we couldnt afford that luxury.

He needs to wake up no doubt, some of his performances this year have fucked me off badly, but surely we can all remember how good he was.? Most bang on about being patient to the manager, but show little loyalty to one of our players who has great potential. Either way id rather have Zab over the pair of them for now, but can't help but feel that moving Micah on would bite on the arse in a big way.

Johnson would significantly improve our defense. Imagine him, Micah, and Zab all battling for a RB spot. We would have a lot of depth in the area.
Does anyone not think that if we're going for Johnson, there might be some truth in the Lescott-Richards swap deal rumours? I don't think Zab will get too many games in midfield anymore and i don't envisage us going into the new season with 3 players fighting for right-back... 2 players for every position is considered to be good, 3 is too much.

If we can bring Lescott and Johnson in at the expense of Richards (plus a few bob), then that would be great business in my opinion.
lol a few bob, were talkin in excess of 25 mill lol, with 10 m on wages lol

excellent comment.

also saddens me to see the posts about Dunne, who didn't have as consistent and solid a season as he usually has - by his usually very high standards; he can still do it.

it's one thing to have an 'mixed' season or go through a rough patch, but it's another to say that talented players have totally lost it and to see some of the appalling adjectives that have been bandied around. He might be on his way because of a number of external factors going on, but wherever he goes, he'll give great service, just like he has done at City.

Richard, thanks for everything you've done for us - and best of luck if as expected, you're not here with us for next season.

the only other thing I'll add is that I hope our management and coaching staff get it together at last, quickly and with consistency...
