Johnson is the closest thing I have seen to Giggs in a very long time.

I saw Giggs make his debut against us (how did Wayne Clarke hit the post from there?)

He possesses the same directness, and closeness of control. It is also a long time since this club had anyone who can individually bring the play a good 30 or 40 yards upfield in our favour.

Very rarely do I get carried away by people at the outset of their careers, but I have seen enough football in my lifetime to recognise when somebody has ALL the fundamentals of the game.

There is a real desire and even at 22, he already has something which Giggs was not able to produce until later into his prime - a final ball.

This kid is only going to get better and better. There is a certain karma surrounding this. We were stiffed on Giggs, Johnson turned his back on the dark side to come to us.

A World Cup bet?

agree the lad is great to watch, his enthusiastic exciting style, blistering pace, skills and control, ability with both feet, make him the best City acquisition i can remember, like Giggs and Peter Barnes combined, real quality young guy!

Im in 110 and we stand up all game but it was the first time in ages that i have seen so many people get out of there seats around the ground when a player recieves the ball in space.

He's quick, skilful, strong for a winger, can cross and shoot brilliantly with both feet and runs at people. If he can head the ball too we could be looking at something similar to someone else who played in red, now in white.

Big shoes to fill Tolmie but have to say we really could have a superstar on our hands here .....

Saying that 2 bad games and suddenly he'll become as popular as Gary Glitter at a kids party! ;-)

while one swallow doesn't make a summer i have to agree with you TH. (apart from his age. Isn't he 20?)

Lovely touch and control and can put a mean ball in the box. All this with both feet an' all. Very impresssive debut.

Not sure about that, think he shares more similar physical attributes to Giggs. There is a effortless ease as he runs with the ball - Ronaldo was physically explosive.

Johnson's shelf-life will be better served with the way he plays and I also sense a degree of humility in his character - something the Portuguese winker never had.

Capello is no mug.
