Jonny Evans

I’ve spoken to more than a few ‘Irish rags’, most of whom wish they had held on to Evans.

Well tell them he's available ... hopefully he might go back to the rags.

He's not quick enough to defend high up the pitch...he looks ok defending with a defensive minded team but I can see him getting skinned for pace if he tried defending high up the pitch which he would have to do with the way we play the game.

Yeah course mate. Not one mention of Maguire in 400 pages before Match of the Day now a whole raft.

Just coincidence obviously

I mentioned him alongside Keane as an example, of if we were after homegrown why didn't we go for either wasn't a comment exclusively about him, also as this is the Evans thread and at least 300 of the 400 pages of people calling him a rag doubt the actual discussion on alternatives had been covered.
Name homegrown CB available this summer at around 20M and only 2 come to mind McGuire and Keane so as examples of similar players to evans of course I mentioned them, regardless of MOTD which I hardly watch as shearer is a **** unless I am awake on a sunday morn

My feeling is that Kompany may very well prove to be a weak link in this defensive lineup if he plays on the right not in the middle. If he does we'll be in a right mess.

'A' weak link rather than 'the' weak link surely.

Just watching the rags yesterday & how obvious it was that Mourinho has spotted what a bunch of galumping oafs most central defenders are & has planned a selection of runners to exploit it.

We are building a back 3 to fit in with his plan.

Was this not available to them when they purchased Mangala, Bony, I don't need to list the other flops but you get my point, you can't use that as a reason to big up Evans when it plainly has failed to spot all the other shite signings.

20-30m

Tyrone Mings 24yo
Craig Dawson 27yo
Ben Mee 27yo, solving all the home grown issues in a stroke no less.

If we were in need of this centre half all summer why did we allow Everton a free run at Keane an ex red but 5 years younger and with improvement still to come, fee 25m rising to 30m.

Also to base the Evans signing on the slight possibility that we sign Sanchez and Mbappe inside the next month is a bit of a joke in itself, if the case was FFP related it would be better no to waste the damned money on a player in the first place and maybe just maybe Pep can use his vaunted ability to make Tosin the centre half he desires, I mean he is a top coach, famed for plucking that German kid from the lower leagues and making him an international, get it done at City please.

I'm getting really sick of saying this but if Tosin isn't mentally good enough then there's very little Pep can do. Players who cannot concentrate for more than twenty minutes at a time are too risky to play in the Premier League.

This is what happens when you leave making such a key signing until a week before the end of the window shuts. Back-up for Kompany was a key requirement because he's vulnerable to injury, and the other central defenders go to pieces without him. However, I have no problem with Evans. He's the ideal type of player who could come in and replace Kompany and organise our back 4. He's far better than the critics on here suggest whose prejudice against him comes down entirely to the team be used to play for.

Seems to me a deal has fallen through and we now have the money to do this.

Just noticed Harry Maguire went to Leicester for an initial fee of £12,000,000. It knocks me sick that we're going in for Evans when we could have had Maguire. We'll probably sign Maguire in 3 years for silly money.

We could have had Stones for seven mill from Barnsley at a time his potential was well known.

We could have had Dijk from Celtic.

Sometimes we just don't seem interested in what's going on in our own backyard.

Anything above 20 mill for Evans is both taking the piss and signalling everyone else to take the piss.

And the fact we used to laugh at his incompetence when he played for them & hope he'd be playing vs us.

If we had two players with Keith Curle's pace who were like Sol Campbell in the air, signing an 'organiser' would seem fair enough. When several of our central defenders are already too slow, & may need replacing soon, it doesn't seem like we have approached the problem in a very sensible manner.

Allegedly we're up to £30m for him now. Can't see it myself, but I'm sure the papers aren't making this up.....

Oh boo fucking hoo, I am getting sick of people making excuses as to why some youth team members can't get a minutes game time, he would be fucking cover not first team and you know a top coach would sort this out sharpish, if it can't be sorted he should have been moved on by now, saying youth team players are not ready for the first team is getting extremely boring, of course they are not ready for 30 games a season but by keeping them held back it stagnates them until you get to a point all potential has evaporated, they need some sort of game time in OUR team, whether that be in the shape of the league cup and I don't just mean firing 7 of them in the team and 4 wasters like Fernando and Bony etc a decent mix of firsts and youth, let us see if they can shine in an environment with real players alongside them.

Again Tosin looked good against Chelsea in the 5-0 surrender, him and Garcia (A) showed enough that they should have been given another look but that didn't happen either, thanks to Pellers, I don't think it would matter as much if Pep wasn't heralded as some kind of youth guru coach, so far at City that isn't the case.

Find this odd... not a single presenter/pundit/radio broadcaster that I have heard has said it would be a bad signing- in fact some have said it would be a good signing, with Pep obviously impressed. Yet the majority on here has slaughtered the guy...

The RagDipperArseHaringeyMeedya will all say it's a good signing 'cos they want us to go belly up! I'm surprised they haven't suggested we resign Bernardo or The Gorgeous Greek, and 'tis a pity St. Joseph of Barton is banned or he would add some steel to the midfield!

I read that our 2nd offer was £21m +£3m add ons which seems more plausible, It would be spectactularly bad negotiating to go from £18m to £30m in a couple of days.

Tbf, I agree with all those comments, except, central defence is like goalkeeper & not a good position to be trying out inexperienced kids except in relatively 'safe' circumstances. I would trust Evans right now, over Tosin, by some distance, as a regular player & if Tosin is still here, give him some time off the bench when suitable.

If Tosin starts to 'get it' during the season, just move him up in the rankings above Otta or Evans.

Barring a miracle, he'll be 4th cb each time VK breaks down due to overstretching or overspriniting anyhow.

Some sympathy with that view but then I think about the disarray our defence was in last season when Kompany was out. We need a solid team into which we can introduce young players.

Fans go mad if we play kids in Cups. Depends on the opposition and circumstances at the time of Cup fixture
