It's a fair point. I said when Mendy came in that if that was it, I'd be ecstatic and anything else is an indulgence. But...I think this weakens us, especially if it's Mangala out for a player of this level. I get Pep doesn't rate Mangala, but lets not kid ourselves, this is a downgrade. At least Mangala would be good against certain strikers.

I just think Pep deserves a little leeway many aren't willing to give him.

Many on here moaned about Bernardo and our early links to Sanchez, Mbappe and others before a defender had come in. Then we got Walker, Danillo and Mendy, turning our black hole of a back line into one among the best in the league. As you say, anything else is an indulgence.

Let's just trust Pep isn't about to shoot himself in the foot. He's determined to win and, if we want Evans, this move is designed to facilitate that.

That all makes it sound like CB is the key spot to strengthen forcefully not on the, not even cheap because it's £20m, but on the 'not good enough' shelf.

Who is a seasoned, experienced premier league captain who has had years of European experience too, who arsenal were also in for last summer. Ultimately I cant honestly say I've watched him much or followed his career, but everything in TH's post about Tosin, Mangala, and Kompany to me makes sense. I think there is just a bit of prejudice about him on her as a recent united player, who then went to an unfashionable club, and who is rarely raved about by the punditmafia. I admit I was shocked at first, like most were I'm sure, but after thinking it through, I honestly hope we get him.

As for being 29 - not a problem for me at CB - would be if he was a striker or midfielder of course.

Yep, my City head wants Mangala to stay cos I like him and I like tough defenders.. but only to play against Lukaku and A&E twice a season, which ain't the greatest logic.

I'd love to give Mangala more of a chance but if he was nervous on the ball before Pep got in the dugout, it would be a serious hot potato at his feet this season.
