Jonny Evans

I would have thought there have been lots of scouts doing the round and yet we are the only daft fuckers to put a bid in for this bang average WBA twat.
Aaaah! I'm gonna tell Pep what you said! lol :-)

Mate, we're buying him as cover because that's all our budget can probably stand at the moment. Pep doesn't want Mangala & doesn't think he can fully rely on Tosin, so he's gone for a proven Premier League player who WBA fans have said has been their outstanding player over the last two years.

We'll be relying on Evans as cover, not as our first choice, so I don't see the issue. If it doesn't work out, we'll have to fall back on Tosin, or change the formation so Fernadinho can sit in front of the defence as extra protection. If Evans is all we can afford right now because of FFP, what else are we supposed to do?

It doesn't matter if it's irrelevant. What matters is we are valuing Evans close to Bonucci.
Alternative then please. I'm sure CIty would have rather paid £18m, but this is the same old story with all our transfers

Comparing Evans' price with Bonucci is being a bit selective. Why not compare it to the price we paid for Mangala!! And Evans is far superior to the Mangler.

Yep Mangala is up there with the worst defender I have seen at city money wise don't care all I care about is will the player contribute positively towards the team.

No we're not as we didn't put any valuation on Bonucci as we couldn't sign him. What Italian clubs pay and premier league clubs pay is quite different due to the relative wealth of those clubs.

The true value of a player can only really be seen at the end of his time at the club. If Evans has helped us win a few trophies, he'll have been good value. If not, he won't have been (and he wouldn't be alone in that).

The budget argument will only have legs if we see another big name with a big fee come in before the window closes.

Mark Lawrenson and Tony Cascarino were on Irish radio a few mins ago. Both think it's a a great signing for us. And Lawrenson said that anyone who thinks he's coming as back-up is deluded. Says he's better than Stones at the moment.

The fact that most of the CB's we've bought & have left a season later were when Pellegrini was there, but that's another subject altogether.

Also for the avoidance of doubt, 27 was my youth & I've seen worse than spitting in my time. It's a disgusting habit yes, but I'd rather someone gobbed on me than than made me swallow my molars mate I can tell ya! Lol :-)

We have a budget mate, which means we have to maximise it as best we can. If we weren't under the constraints of FFP, don't you think we'd be balls deep in for VVD or similar? As my Mum always says 'Hang your hat where you can reach it', or in our case don't unduly piss off UEFA when we all know they're gunning for City.

I try not to focus on Evans, I look at the window as a whole and think are we better or worse than we were last season? Do you think the squad is stronger , the same or weaker than last season?
The problem with the budget is why pay £30 mil for Evans then? It stinks of panic buy, it's similar to us pissing money up the wall for the likes of Bony.

This time last week I was delighted by our business, we finally seemed to have our head screwed on yet here we are again buying players clearly not good enough.

You and I know this is a ridiculous transfer. If when the alternative CB thread was created I had posted saying 'we need to be looking at getting someone better than Smalling' I'd have been laughed at but here you are trying to justify us buying Evans with that same statement.

Well that's me convinced.

He played for Man Utd and for some he's persona non grata. Forget whether he's any good.

We need cover for Kompany. Last season Kolarov, Stones and Otamendi went to pieces in his absence. I think Evans would be good enough to play in Kompany's absence, and 24 hours on I have not seen one suggestion of a home grown player who could cover for Kompany. That player has to be experienced. We're not looking for a young player who we can develop.
Correct....it's the rag thing and nothing more that some can't see past
