Exactly.

It made a modicum of sense when you consider the squad restrictions in the CL and our other targets; Sanchez. Even then though, we'd be shelling out upwards of £30m on a player to be a backup, who wouldn't improve the squad to any considerable amount. To then have to buy another CB in the summer for even more money whilst being stuck with Evans who we wouldn't be able to shift on his massive wages until his contract expires and we get fuck all.

It would leave us in the situation we so desperately tried to remedy last summer.
