I don't really get the fury some fans have about this deal. I agree we shouldn't be spending £30 million on him, maximum 24 I think. But we do need a centre half and it looks like we are after a British one for approx £20m.
Can anyone give some other alternatives for £20m? Gibson to City would be £30m at least. He might be allowed to go cheaper elsewhere but we need to be realistic, when City come calling the price goes up.
The Bonucci to Milan deal is irrelevant too. We wanted him but he didn't want to come England by all accounts, Juventus sold him for far too little but people comparing the two deals need to get some perspective.
Everton getting Keane for £30m max at the start of the window is looking like very good business now.

We should have Toby "tapped up" to join us next summer. Promise him a signing up fee to compensate for any wages lost this season due to not signing a new contract and activate his release clause next summer for £22m (IIRC).

100% this, he's shite, would be gutted if we spent anything on him, keep Mangala for one more season then get Hernandez from Athletico.
I know it's petty and shallow, but i'm an old school fan, don't want anything that has been through the scum set up, if we were looking at a centre half who had rag connections I would sooner of gone for Keane from Burnley who signed for similar money for Everton.
