I hate this as a reply to a fellow City, it is like no no you are not allowed an opinion of your own, the god has choosen so fucking deal with it.

Well I hate to spoil your rhetoric but the pair of them have a dogshit record of buying centre halves, Txiki has an awful record and that is just with us.

So I feel it is valid that fans can question the transfer of Evans, not that it matters one way or the other, they are hardly likely to see this thread and change their mind, all it does is put City fans against one another yet again, every thread is like that in here at the end of the day.

The last I heard, the point of a forum was for fans to vent their spleens. I have no issue with that as long as it remains respectful as I a man of peace.

That said, if we hadn't had 4 years of FFP and stagnation under the 2012/13 transfer window until Pellegrini's final season, I'm sure things would have been very different on the playing side. However, these things have hampered our progress & anyone who thinks we can redress 4 seasons of regression and stagnation in 12 months, is living in Boogie Wonderland.

It took time for Mancini's squad and good work to be dismantled and it will probably take the same amount of time to get us back to where we were before we progress. FFP has stopped us from going into this transfer window balls deep to correct our squad's failings, but here's a question for you......... Do you think if our squad didn't need major restructuring and not for FFP, do you think we'd have been in for Evans now, & Bony, Delph and the rest before them?

Well yes MDM was pretty awful against top class opposition, Stones at 50m is ridiculous and I like him and think he will be a good player for us, 42m for Mangala is a terrible bit of business, if you want Ota is not as good as he looked in Spain, his defending is far more rash and he spent his first year sliding about on his arse, improved somewhat on that last season.

Chyrgynskiy - £22m - Defender (22 yo). Highly rated, played 12 games for Barcelona before being sold the year after signing. Barca ate a loss of £9m on the player.

Henrique - £7m - Defender. Who? Really, who? A 21 yo Brazilian defender. Released after 3 years having never played a game for Barcelona but had loan spells at various European clubs.

Gabriel Milito - £17.6m - Defender (26 yo) Signed from Zaragoza, Gabriel played for 3 years for Barca notching 48 appearances for the club as a squad player. A useful utility plug and play type, the size of the fee and the number of games played leaves me underwhelmed or to give this signing a pass.


Some good, some bad. Alves and Pique are the standout signings of Txiki's reign. We also saw some cheap depth players who went on to play a lot of games for Barca, so kudos there. But there were some mistakes, none bigger than Chygrynskiy at £22m, Caceras at £14m. Milito at £17m, and Henrique and Edmilson cost in the £8m range. It's hard to argue that any of that £70 odd million was particularly well spent.

Txiki was excellent on the cheap signings and poor on the expensive one's save fopr Dani Alves.

Gerard Pique - £4.4m - Defender (22yo) A clear success story, was sold by Ferguson who, so the stories go, believed J Evans to have greater potential. An easy signing to make, bringing home the 'stolen' youth product. A great price too

At the end of the day nobody will convince me signing JFE for nearly 30m is good business.

Most people on this thread are hung up on the fact that he used to play for the shit.

If he was a former Chelsea player, say.

* who had several league winners medals
* a champions league medal and had been sold due to change in management coinciding with consistent niggling injury
* Has now proved his fitness and performed well in a league he knows inside out.
* Is not going to keep legendary captain out of the team but will provide adequate cover and rotation with young up and comer..

Say it was Gary Cahill (Yes, I know Cahill is older) matching the above description...would there be an issue? No.
If he was a former Bayern, Barca, Real academy product then it would be kids at christmas on here. His nationally is unfashionable as is the club of origin.

Well we played no youth last season and didnt win anything. A youth player playing the odd game isnt going transform our season. Roberts woulf have been a better option than navas last season imo

Not in the opinion of Pep he wouldn't, and judging by what I saw in pre-season, added to Robert's unwillingness to go to a PL club to face tougher competition, it looks like Pep & Co. have made the correct call imo.

I'll call it now. It wouldn't surprise me if Roberts is sold next summer, with a sell on/buy back clause inserted. His performances & actions this summer say to me we have a player who is not willing to go that extra mile to succeed at the very top of the game.

However, this is a thread about Evans and in no way do I think that without the spectre of FFP loitering in the shadows, would we be in for Evans. Taking into account the £220m we've spent this window and the fact we badly want Sanchez PLUS a back up left back, Evans as a back CB for a season or two makes perfect sense imo.

It's all about opinions and all things considered, I completely see the reasoning behind going after a cut-price, but experienced Evans. Does anyone seriously think we've not done our homework on this one? Would we even have a thread if some unknown player from Spain was signing as back up to our main CB's? Well I don't think so & the fact Evans is a Rag and an ex Rag player isn't lost on me. However Evans is still a professional and will still want to end his career on a high which is more likely pushing for a place at City, rather than being captain at WBA. Just don't play him against ManUre & we'll be sorted! :-)
