This is what happens when you leave making such a key signing until a week before the end of the window shuts. Back-up for Kompany was a key requirement because he's vulnerable to injury, and the other central defenders go to pieces without him. However, I have no problem with Evans. He's the ideal type of player who could come in and replace Kompany and organise our back 4. He's far better than the critics on here suggest whose prejudice against him comes down entirely to the team be used to play for.
Seems to me a deal has fallen through and we now have the money to do this.
And the fact we used to laugh at his incompetence when he played for them & hope he'd be playing vs us.
If we had two players with Keith Curle's pace who were like Sol Campbell in the air, signing an 'organiser' would seem fair enough. When several of our central defenders are already too slow, & may need replacing soon, it doesn't seem like we have approached the problem in a very sensible manner.
