no it's not,we will let him run down his contract, give him game time when he is fit then he will decide with the club in 18mths time what kind of role within the club he can do if he wants to stay here that is
That is very idealistic and would be great if it happened, but the club isn't emotionally run and this will be a good indicator of their resolve to see if they are willing to do something like this.

If his retirement is imminent, I hope the club are already a long way down the road in convincing him to stay, in a none playing capacity.

I don’t think Vinney will continue as a player beyond this years World Cup. (At least I hope not, for the sake of his own peace of mind, if nothing else)
if I’m honest I think that was his main motivation for not retiring before the start of this season.

I may be wrong, but, He’s entirely the wrong type of character just to want to run his contract down & continue to take a players wage without the prospect of being able to contribute fully next season.

I hadn't personally considered for one moment that Kompany was simply running down his contract, I'm pretty much with you I'm sure he would have called it a day but for the World Cup and I don't see him here into next season myself, which given the beating his body might take in the World Cup when he might be asked to play as many as 8 games in 26 days(he has only managed 1 a month in the league for us basically the last 2 and a half seasons). I guess the issue is it would take one hell of a punt from someone to pick him up unless he takes a huge cut in wages.

Leicester City to battle Manchester City and Arsenal in the race to sign West Brom’s Jonny Evans. He looks certain to leave The Hawthorns in this transfer window. [Daily Mail]
C'mon Pep, you know what to do here.

Talk of Emre Can. I know he is a midfield player but something about his physique reminds me of Javi García who I remember has a few successful games at CB.

That was my thought as well particularly after what Pep did with Mascherano and Martinez. Pep seems to like taking midfield players and turning them into ball playing centre backs and Can is young enough to adapt
