Jorginho

It’s a real difficult one. Here’s a list of players I’d prefer over Jorginho.. verratti is decent and is a solid defensive option but would he leave PSG? Also Nzonzi is decent and also proven and won’t be to expensive. But most of all I’d love to see Thiago here at city because he is world class. He’s young can tackle and knows the way pep plays. Actually surprised we’ve not gone in for him as he’s a perfect fit! Would love him so much more than any other player
I'd love to see Thiago at City but it isn't going to happen. Are you really that much of an expert about Italian football that you know that Jorginho is not good enough for City? Last time I watched Italian club football regularly was when Gazza was still playing and we had Gazetta Football Italia. How many times have you seen him play? What is it about his game that you don't rate?

Regardless of your opinion of Jorginho (and Mahrez), isn't it just a bit disappointing that we're going for players that aren't of a high enough standard to remove any argument whether they're good enough for us or not?

Everyone would be getting giddy on here if we were close to getting Hazard and Mbappe, for example, or if we'd got Fabinho. Yet the targets the club has identified are dividing opinion, which isn't the best sign.

I just wish we would really go for it from such a position of strength in terms of our dominant season, manager and financial clout. But we're spending on players you'd expect Spurs or Arsenal to look at, not a team with genuine CL winning aspirations. That is disappointing in my opinion.
This presumes that popularity equates good. For the most part the players who get a majority of fans here excited are often currently at the tail ends of their peaks, Hence their extreme popularity. I.e Iniesta...

Worse still, Popularity even with quality might sometimes not fit well. I.e Ngolo Kante or Lewandoski.

And there are just times when we simply can't afford the player... And by afford, I mean his team does not want to sell or he doesn't want to come. I.e Mbappe or Griezmann.

And finally, your view of "high enough standard" and mine's may not be the same even after we made allowances for the above possibilities. Example - I bet you think Bonnucci, Alaba, and Kroos are all indisputably high enough standard. I disagree on all 3. And therein lies the dilemma

So like I said, it all depends. That said both Jorghino and Mahrez are of the highest quality in my opinion.

FWIW, there was probably a Liverpool fan last summer thinking "not of high enough quality" about their acquisition of Salah. What would you guess his thoughts are today?
