Why? Seems to me that they're just trying to get the best deal they can for one of their players.

If our interest was real, I wonder how much we would have paid. Bet it was a fair chunk more than £3.5m. If so, it was an expensive gamble on their part. Hope it's taught them a lesson not to fuck us about if we want one of their players in the future.
