If Jorginho moves to Chelsea,it would lack of ambition.anywway I think we will sign him as we are better than them we can offer better wages better chance to win trophies our play would be more suited to him than what Sarri will try at Chelsea and yes we have a manger who is 3x better than Sarri

I'd quite like to see Dinho deployed in a more advanced role at times next season, assuming we do get Jorginho and he hits the ground running. Always feel like he offers us something different going forward. His attacking abilities are underrated. Not to mention Dinho/Jorginho can be played together if we ever felt that we needed more protection in the midfield.

It will be interesting to see what ultimately happens to Gundo. If a genuinely good offer comes in for him, I wouldn't be upset to see him go. If the plan is to still bring Bernardo into the central role, I feel we're more than covered without him. He's a solid option, I just feel he doesn't offer quite enough at either the CM or DM positions.

Good post. Can certainly see Dino and Jorginho being deployed together against Liverpool to blunt them. Watching the videos Jorginho does seem to offer something different and his ability to recycle the ball is up their with Yaya at his best.

Alternate view - Jorginho, Napoli and City have agreed his transfer and that's pushed Sarri to decide to leave.
I like your optimism :-) Anyway, Sarri coming to the Prem is a frightening news in case he gets Chelsea board's full backing. Rags will struggle to get to 4th place in a year this way.

Well he did mostly play as an attacking midfielder before City.
Makes you think how mental the 2014 lineup was, him playing defensive mid alongside Yaya, with the full backs bombing ahead.

Jorginho would be a fantastic addition.

One of the key features of Napoli's passing play this season was to hold possession in deep areas by bringing everyone back, playing neat one touch football and luring the opposition into a high press, opening up space in behind and springing fast transitions into attack. To do that in the central midfield role means you have to be the smartest, the most press-resistant and best passer out of the bunch.

This is something we could really do with. Whilst Fernandinho has his strengths and has proven himself to be a key asset going forwards, there do exist a small number of games where we would require an alternative option. Unfortunately, compared to the other players we have, Fernandinho is a bit lacking in the creative and the positional* (for a possession system) sense. 9 out of 10 times this isn't a problem; his defensive astuteness, all round ability, discipline, work rate, aerial ability (which really helps the centre backs), midfield security, and his leadership work perfectly for us. But in those rare games where we're being very heavily pressed, like against the red version of Everton or Napoli he can (not necessarily will btw) become a weak link. Obviously very few games a season, but having someone that can dispel the press and take all the pressure off of our other players is a massive difference maker both offensively and defensively, as it allows us to play the way we do with far less disruption.

*Also why Fernandinho may not be the most effective pushed further forward. Like against Brighton recently. He could be ok there but he's best in the role he has.

Gundogan is an option, but in those games he'd be far more useful further forward (like Napoli away) and besides I think this current incarnation of Gundogan is a bit lacking composure wise to play the deep role against a very strong and heavy press, especially if we're away.

Jorginho is as close to a pure specialist we can get who can come in and provide us with that option. Moving forwards I believe Pep's goal is to have a squad filled with players who can be easily rotated tactically just as much as any other reason. It would help create a competitive environment, protect the players's fitness, and most importantly push us towards Pep's presumed dreamland whereby the team has complete tactical flexibility.

Funnily enough, a younger Touré would have been perfect for the role. A big 'if only' really.

I would have to agree mate...It would seem the links to Fred were alot stronger than Jorginho in Jan and it would have been him playing in our squad and not Jorginho if we had been able to agree a price in Jan, with his club....City/Fred links were strong over the transfer window so you have to think he was our No1 option at that time.....I think Jorginho will be a great signing but it would seem Fred was our first stop at filling that need...
A more critical way to look at it is true the constraints prism.

In January, there were 2 strong constraints and 1 weak one.. 1) technical enough to survive at City 2) currently on a team likely to sell, and the weak constraint 3)a player willing to move now.

Fred fulfilled 1 and 3. And we assumed 2 was likely. It turns out the club who qualified for KO of CL wasn't willing.

Today though, the constraints are different. Again there seems to be 2 strong constraints.
1) Can improve a weakness in the squadss system
2) Does not have World cup commitments
And tell

Notice how the criterion has changed. For one, the "on a team willing to sell" isn't a constraint anymore. As everyone is willing to sell in the summer at the right price. But not true of the Winter window.

Second, we are not simply looking for someone who can cope with the technical level. We are looking for someone with the skill set to actually improve it. Players who satisfy this constraint are generally not available in the winter. At least not willingly.

And also the 2nd constraint of not having World Cup commitments is key. The incoming players have to be able to join as early as possible (i.e earlier than the World cup crew) so they can get some reps and get used to the culture here.

I'm not in the boardroom, but when I think about who to get, these are some of the factors and constraints i'd have considered.

That Jorghino is the highest rated player on our list makes sense.

He is as good as any of our Midfielders under pressure. And can improve our play there.
He is a fantastic passing out of the back.
He is not going to the World cup.
He already plays in a similar system.

That Jorghino is the #1 rated prospect should have been easily expected.

Young Toure surely wasn't 'perfect' for that role as 21 yo Busquets has benched him easily in 09/10.
Yeah but that doesn't mean he wasn't good. It means Busquets was better. Touré's ability to pass, control tempo and handle a press, particularly between 11-13 for us was a big feature of how we played.
