No because my problem isn't with the scouting system Txiki clearly employs (he's excellent at finding the right player, rather than a name player like Ed Wood). My problem is with his high risk/no reward negotiating strategy. That's all.
I think you are wrong when you say there is no reward though. The reward is that the asking price in not further inflated than it already is. If Txiki had the reputation of just paying whatever was asked for, the City-price would be even higher than it already is. The negotiations are worth it even though we end up paying close to the initial asking price anyway. I agree that the risk of not getting a player is real though, but that is part of the game. Our price is what we think a player is really worth, and we don't pay more than that. Alexis Sanchez says hi there. I think that is the only sensible way to go.

I meant low-reward, sorry, not 'no-reward'.

Besides, he does have that reputation because he eventually pays it anyway. Plus, as we all know, we have to pay a City premium for players.

It wasn't City's or Txiki's reputation that inflated Sanchez's asking price though. It was United's desperation and stupidity.

Nothing to do with our negotiation, really.

I think we will just have to agree to disagree about this then :-)

As long as it doesn 't put the deal at risk he can offer what he wants. To me, though, it seems that by low-balling the negations, he tends to put deals at risk of collapse, which in my opinion, isn't worth it. Like I said, in poker terms it's high variance with bad pot odds. Not worth the bluff.

So I don't care what we offer. Just so long as we get the player. So why not just pay what they're asking?
If Txixi went in and agreed to the asking price, you can bet your life that some made up mystery club would all of a sudden be interested and be willing to pay 10mill more than we were. The asking price would go up on the spot. By lowballing them, as you call it, he isn't trying to screw them to the ground, he's just keeping them honest.

I don't think it is reasonable to moan about us haggling as you call it. If we just paid whatever was asked for immediately I am sure we would be asked even more unreasonable prices the next time. The only way to not be fu**ed over is to negotiate hard about the price, and even to walk away every now and then. Negotiating prices is hard when the other party has something you want. Your statements about this matter are old and many on here, but still out of touch with reality. Or do you prefer Txiki would turn into Ed Woowar number 2?
Yup. It appears at the moment we are the only bidders, without any competition why would you start at the asking price? He wants us, we want him, Napoli want money.

Keeping an Italian club honest? Good luck with that!

I'm always impressed by just how many people on here were present at the negotiating table in our previous transfer deals so are in such a good position to tell us how the negotiating went down.

Haha, especially Napoli. They'll probably send us him in pieces..."Heres his left leg, thats what 30M buys"
This seems to have exactly happened on the recent FX series "Trust" involving negotiations with parties from southern Italy. (Apparently inspired by real events from the 1970s). Good show BTW!

gen question. Who have we lost out on in your opinion because of the way Txiki conducts negotiations?

Even worse, some fuckers have no idea s to how transfers are conducted. They think it just a matter of agreeing a fee and thats it.They clearly have no knowledge as to how many people are actually present to sign off a transfer and the number involved. Its just Txiki and their Chairman they think. If only..
Unfuckingbelievable jeff.

Same few repeat the same nonsense every transfer window no matter how many times they are put straight on how it works

discussing the player:

Ive not seen very much of this guy at all....from what I've seen he is a bit like a younger Gareth Barry..not particularly mobile but uses his intelligence and reading of the game to be in the right place at the right time. He is certainly no Yaya physically (but then again who is) but he has a very good range of passing.

The absolute key for me is how he deals with fast paced teams who press intensely...if he is able to do that then perfect...but I have no idea

From our side I'd imagine Pep identifies/approves the target but the actual negotiating is principally done by Txiki with Khaldoon and Ferran Soriano having a say as well. Who else would there be?

Itk's know fa, we are all trawling through the same internet shit as each other. If anyone on here has genuine links to the club they would know to keep quiet about upcoming transfer details.
