Jorginho

the club picked Jorginho and spent the last 6 months working on this deal for a reason
For me this is the key point I will hold my hand up and say I don't know pretty much anything about this guy, but if the club has spent 6 months chasing him, that is time and cost and basic resources the club has "spent" that could have been employed more productively if it had been spent elsewhere. So while ohhh just walk away might be our gut reaction, it might not be the prudent one and seeing as we spent the previous 6 months tracking Fred we have now been looking for this position as one of our(if not our main)target for 12 months.

We offered them what’s we think he’s worth to us. We get into a bidding war with Chelsea then we end up paying 70 or 80 mil for a not clearly first choice midfielder. We finished as champions with 100 points and Chelsea were nobodies last season. He’s worth a lot more to them than he is to us which is why we won’t go into a bidding war with Chelsea

Been a bit of a boring saga this one. Fern has got a couple of years left in him if need be. A crap world cup won't change that. Only a knee jerker would think so.

It’s when dinho is injured or possibly suspended that we have a problem then mate?

well other than the fact we have been looking to fill this gap in the squad for 12 months so it's hardly "knee jerk" and one only need to look back to losing Nigel de Jong to see that it's not the easiest position to replace.

We saw a player, probably still do, Pep could mould into a Fernandinho replacement over the next season. We have a price we will pay for that. If we cant get him for that or he doesn't want it enough then we find another player. Pep is good enough to coach the right player for the right price.
I would put money on whoever we sign becoming a better player than the player we don't sign, it's Peps position he knows it better than anyone.

This is the one position we are desperate for yet are about to splurge on mahrez? Don’t get me wrong I want mahrez but if we had to pick one would sort DM more than an extra attacker

Am I right in thinking it's still only that Alfredo Pedulla bloke who is banging the drum about Jorginho having all but signed for Chelsea?

If that's the case, then this is still more likely to be a negotiating tactic by ADL than a true representation of the current state of play in this transfer. Pedulla's source will clearly be a briefing from ADL, which is being put out there for a reason - and what he's wanted all along is a bidding war for the player. See it as an attempt to get that moving, nothing more at this stage.

If other outlets start to report this at source - particularly outlets in the UK, from the Chelsea or City ends - then I'd be thinking very differently. But at the moment, this is clearly an angle briefed by Napoli, to serve their agenda.

And by other outlets, I don't mean some fake Social Media account from some bloke on the internet pretending to be Jorginho's mother!

I agree mate...keep reading no big deal if we miss on Jorginho/Fred or whoever but you only have to listen to the chairman's words and know we start working on some of these transfers 6 months before hand....allowing ourselves to get outbid or not being able to prevent a player getting his head turned, is a big deal when you think of the amount of work that has gone into getting to this point...lets see what happens over the next couple of days, Jorginho might be a blue by weekend and we might not have to settle for 3rd choice!;)
Correct, big teams sign players first and foremost because they will improve the team, but also to prevent their rivals from being strengthened. Chelsea signed SWP so Arsenal couldn't for example. We clearly rate Jorginho highly so cannot sit back and allow them to sign him. Obviously can't yet say that is what we are doing.

Yes....nothing to confirm Jorginho on his way to Chelsea! Just rumours mate...

Ok so it seems there's an awful lot going on here, but I think the club are handling it pretty well if all the latest reports are true. He won't be joining Chelsea just because they've offered a bigger fee that's for sure. More wages-yes, would prefer London-yes. If we" ve gone this far down the line and now he turns tail, then he wasn't for us anyway.

The 'knee-jerk' comment was related to his world cup. You know what these internet football specialists are like these days. One bad game and he was crap all of his career.

Thanks mate.

In that case, we should just keep our cool - like Txiki and the club are doing - and see this for what it is most likely to be: a shrewd business man playing hard at negotiation to get the best deal for his club.

Pedulla is a Napoli source, so why would Napoli want to brief that the deal was close to Chelsea? To try and panic City into upping our offer, or caving to the last of his demands re: bonuses, etc.

Negotiation at this level isn't a walk in the park - and ADL is notoriously tough. And he plays dirty. But Txiki is one of the best in the business, and knows what he's doing - despite some of the reactionary shit you read on here. Some of our more faint-hearted brothers would do well to remember that before they jump up and down and call for his head because some clown posts an unfounded statement on Twitter.

If this starts being reported at source either by reliable City or Chelsea journos, then we need to take it seriously. Until then, I don't see anything to get concerned about.

For what it's worth I still think this is done.
Claim Chelsea are in for him from Italian ahem sources and City counter claim OK then were going after Kovacic or Lamina or Pjanic showing we won't be bullied into paying over the odds by Napoli but will pay a fair price.
No noises from any other press source to say Chelsea are remotely interested. If they were, Barkley, Drinkwater, Hazard, Kante, Pedro, Willian, Moses, Bakayoko and Kennedy best warn their agents off.
My favourite was Jorginho's mums IG following Chelsea lol
I love the transfer window - some people should learn to relax more. We're Champions, Centurians and Peps our manager.

Signing players off the back off good international tournaments is the closest thing in football to pissing your money away, the list is endless who could forget pretty much the whole Greek team that got big transfers based on winning the European Championship only to be back in Greece almost to a man 18months later, Poborský, Alexi Lalas, Tarantini, Villa(OK perhaps not the best example for City supporters but the point still stands he was shit), Kleberson the list is endless

Yes, let the Rags do that! As many have pointed out on here, the failure to sign Jorginho, whilst disappointing maybe, would not be the end of the world and I trust those running our club to find an alternative who would be an eventual and worthy ‘successor’ to Fernandinho. And if it turns out not to be in this window, then in the next one or the one after that.

We’re in a healthier position squad-wise than we were after our last two Premiership successes, particularly if we do sign Mahrez, and I’m sure Pep will find a way to cope without Fernandinho when he has to. And it’s no use giving Txiki grief if Jorginho decides against signing for us: he can’t force any player to sign on the dotted line, even after months of pursuit, if the player subsequently has his head turned for whatever reason. Nor can we ‘blame’ Jorginho if he chooses Chelsea over us and level at him the the charge of stupidity, lack of ambition or greed. Chelsea may well be offering him a more lucrative deal (I don’t know) but other factors will probably play a part in his decision: the chance to re-unite in a different environment with a coach he trusts and who trusts him, the guarantee of being first name on the team sheet and the focal point of a newly moulded side (not a promise he can be made at City), the attraction of London, the preferred destination of his wife and so on. And, yes, De Laurentiis is a hard-nosed and slippery customer (to say the least) who may well have got what he wanted from all this but, again, we have no control over that side of things. And we don’t know, in truth, how close Jorginhno’s ever been to signing for us.

So if things turn out as, at the moment, they seem they’re going to, we move on. There’s no point in futile recriminations. If the player has decided against us, so be it. Let’s not have any indignant and entitled outbursts of “How can he not choose us?” Again, leave that sort of stuff to the Rags.
