Gazumped by Chelski and snubbed by the player. It isn't the end of the world. But it is probably the end of this thread.
Hopefully.

I am not upset at the snub or City.
City have a lot of credit in the bank with me, so it would take something really bad for me to feel any genuine disappointment with them.
The only thing that would generate my concern about City, is if we dont sign anybody in that dm role and there are no more signings
I know we smashed it last season but it would feel like shades of of Pellegrinis and Mancicnis second summer transfer windows for me.

We can't sign everybody we want. other teams were bound to react after last season.
Lets move on and win the league again.

I think Fodens physical development at this time may count against him, besides he appears to thrive 20 to 30 yards further up the field.

Not if the player really wants to join City, which is key.
Or if there are no other bidders re our latest signing from LCFC.
When other Clubs enter the bidding we cannot expect bargains or success unless we collude with another Club to bid low on our behalf.
As I said previously we were used to get Chelsea the player, who would have thought that the Russian mafia could deal with the Italian version.

If it helps mate, think about it like this:

We have signed Mahrez; we have effectively a new signing in a fit Mendy; we have Foden and Diaz coming through and they will only get better; we have offloaded a diminished Yaya; we still have 50 million in the kitty. Thinking of my wasted youth on the Kippax, I think I would have taken that.
No such thing as wasted youth on the Kippax. It merely gave you a thicker skin to deal with disappointments later on in life!

That’s true.

However, that leaves us vulnerable to being outbidded every time for the remaining 90% of players with no preferred club, but are more interested in the size of their pay packet...... ala Sanchez.

Truth is very few clubs can afford to outbid us and no one did for Mahrez. On the other hand, we will largely be looking at an elite group of players where the clubs with a genuine interest are going to be the bigger ones who can afford big fees but I still think your 90% estimate is way too high.

On top of which, we want players whose preferred club is City.

Didn't Mahrez come out of nowhere in January? who knows we may have someone better up our sleeves.

Great post

This. He's executed the perfect double-cross in order to get his client the best deal.

...missing out on CL football.

City want and need hungry players to move on successfully.
It's fine when characters like Sanchez or Jorginho for whatever reason don't want to join City.

Last season we did well without Yaya, Mendy and Gundogan still recovering. In comparison we have upgraded now, and Mahrez on top.

It would be quite ridiculous if City can't attract a classy DM in the near future.
Or maybe even 2, if Gundogan might move to Barca...

We need a DM. Twice before we have failed to capitalise on an opportunity to dominate after winning the league, can’t do it again.

Really don’t care if it’s Jorginho or someone else. Whoever Pep thinks.

Have to stop being played by agents and owners though. We keep letting these deals drag on and on. Not sure what the answer is, as it is smart to not pay over the odds, but we’re in the situation now where our manager is so good that other clubs will be interested in our targets just because he is, even if they weren’t before. And clubs will wait and see who else shows up...

a massive battle must be on the cards surely ?

The thing that really grip my s... is the time wasting. Ok if the guy doesn’t want to come for whatever reason that is ok but we could have been spending time looking for someone else. We should remember the agents name next he comes knocking.

Good point.
Sorry, just pointing out thatthe currently exiled from UK Mr A has previous for dodgy dealing where the mafia still exert influence.

I was being flippant , and I'm sure you're right about the individual(s) concerned at both clubs.
