Joshua Wilson-Esbrand

The best thing an academy player can do when stepping up into the first team for the first time is look like a natural first team player as if he belongs and Wilson-Esbrand did just that against Wycombe in bucket loads.

Glad he is over his injury and hopefully we will see him again in the first team against tougher opposition.

I like to keep an eye on the youth team players when possible and watched him live in a youth cup game before his injury. You could tell he is a very nice footballer on the ball but my only worry is that he tended to run alongside the winger he was against giving him a bit of an escort. Might be a generational thing but didn't really hit the tackles. Not a major gripe as easily fixed not something you have to be born with but hoping he has worked on this part of his game.

Walker does that. I think if you have the pace to keep up with a winger then diving in isn’t so much a necessity. Just make sure you block any cross that comes in (probably the only thing that Walker hasn’t improved on yet).

I didn't realise his contracts runs out in the summer. Another talent we need to keep hold of.

I don’t want to seem harsh but I do want to calm people’s expectations for Josh slightly. The game he had against Wycombe was comfortably his best performance all season, not sure whether that can be seen as a positive or negative, probably both from whatever way you look at it. But basically just saying not to expect him to play a lot and don’t expect him to be our LB solution. But hopefully we get him tied down.

Him and Finlay Burns both out of contract next summer, would expect to here something sharpish before they can sign deals in Jan.

Great to see him fit and on the pitch last night. Has not had much attention as he has had a number of injuries in the youth set up but given the position he plays this lad could be the next academy breakthrough.

Was in the league cup squads last year and on the senior tour now. Might be the only natural left footed LB in the squad when the season kicks off.

I thought he was brilliant last night. Very confident to have the ball in tight areas and also clever in his movement up too. Not scared to use both feet too which is handy in the type of situations our full backs get into.

Name-checked by Pep too when he was asked about a LB.
I get the vibe Pep likes him. We dont keep many youth players around to 20yo. He had a new contract this year so clearly they see him as a 1st team squad player now.

Looked very good going forward with a lot of courage
while defence seems to be his weaker side.

Didn't see enough of him but seems like another wingback type to me.
Has he been developed to LB after being a former left winger?

He's been Injured since Jan, this was his first game back. Missed alot of games with injury over the last few years, no really had the chance to loan out or move.

That's good for us because when we sign a LB, i think he'll be the backup, with Walker and Cancelo being the RB's.

Another one who didn't look out of place last night. He looked good on the ball and got into some promising positions. He got caught out up field a couple of times but he will learn.

Really awful. Poor decision making. Also very bad defending. A whole in the left. (Larios is much better)

Lewis the opposite. Very well. Composure, good technique and knows how to play.

I thought he looked very promising. Tidy on the ball, good link up play and not afraid to attack the full back. Cant comment on his defending as he didnt really have a lot to do but looks to have pace which is a wonderful asset for a full back
