You can feel the pain inside simple simon:
BBC Sport's Simon Stone said: "The deal does not include any add-ons, which means it is not a British record for a defender as had been anticipated.
"City are privately delighted with the deal - less than Manchester United paid for Harry Maguire - given as recently as last week Leipzig were insisting they wouldn’t sell for less than 100m euros.
Gvardiol evidently made it clear it was City & only City. Leipsig were hell bent on getting a world record fee, but with Gvardiol intent on coming here, & time running out for them to bring in replacements before the season starts, it seems they blinked first.
Around the same time it was reported they'd given us a 2 week deadline, reports started to emerge of the Dippers & Rags nipping in to gazump us, however just like Mbappé to Real, it seems it didn't matter who else was interested, both players have made up their minds where they want to play their football next season.
Kovacic being at City too probably strengthened Gvardiol's resolve, so with time running out, Leipsig have settled & City have agreed a friendly with them worth a potential £1.5m in gate receipts alone.
Add in the matchday lager & bratwurst money, with half/half scarf sales, it could be worth an additional £2m - £2.5m to Leipsig which is additional dough in their pockets that City don't have to cough up.
I reckon it's a good deal all round.
