Josko Gvardiol

Obviously Gundogan’s future is a big one but the noises have been more positive of late.

The same issue as the last few summers may arise with both Bernardo and Laporte. They want out but don’t seem to have many options.

We obviously want shot of Cancelo but he’ll be difficult to move on.

Then there’s the unexpected Saudi interest in Mahrez. Finally we had the surprisingly poor season from Phillips.

Lots of question marks.
Cancelo I think will head out on loan again.

Ake is the replacement (LB/LCB) & we pay £86 for Laportes minutes. As it stands Laporte/Cancelo/Gomez are still at the club. The market for Laporte is small (PL/PSG). La Liga/Serie A clubs who could be interested will pay max. £20.
Well if Laporte stays there obvious no need for Gvardiol but evidently all three of those you mentioned needs replacing and instead of paying 150m for three players you can get one mega gem for 80m that performs for 10+ years. It’s not rocket science

were not paying for Laporte's minutes were paying for a 21 year old cb who can stay for 10+ years who is tipped to be one of the best defenders in the world.

Ake and stones to some extent have injury records and if one of them breaks down were fucked so pep wants a defender so he can rotate and have flexibility. You've also got to continuously improve the team or you'll end up stale.

You underestimate Mikel Arteta’s obsession with winning the Premier League with our cast offs, proving he’s his own man.

Fishing for my favourite Arsenal fan. Maybe my bait is too chummy.

r/soccer has a thread about City's interest in Gvardiol. These are literally the latest comments there ...

football is kill (again)
As a Croat, this is heartbreaking ...
City just replace one huge signing with another it’s obscene
City needs to go away.
Fuck this man
This is the greed they talk about in the bible
Damn they're buying another cyborg
Oh piss off you already have the best squad around
de bruyne has already hurt me enough, don’t do this
Go away man
Gvardiola

and from a United fan:
The day after winning the treble City are going in for one of the most promising CB’s in the world, yet after watching them win a treble we’re getting linked to Jordan Pickford
Just about sums it up really
Tent Peg has obviously seen something in Pickford which Pep has missed....

r/soccer is a toxic sub that has become even worse now that Arsenal fans feel robbed of the title and Real Madrid fans saw City obliterate their club in the semis. They have joined the self-righteous fans of Liverpool, Man Utd and Spurs.

One comment that got hundreds of upvotes about City’s pursuit of Gvardiol claimed that City’s second best 11 players could easily compete to win trophies. The evidence? Pep subbed on Foden for De Bruyne in the CL final.

Even worse is that The Athletic is publishing article after article of clickbait saying City‘s accomplishments are all down to money spent by skirting FFP. Those articles get hundreds of anti-City comments from angry subscribers.

Nobody acknowledges Guardiola’s brilliance both tactically and at improving players. So many City players are far more valuable now than they were when they joined the senior squad because of Pep - Haaland, Foden, Bernardo, Rodri, Ake, Akanji, Alvarez, Dias, Stones, Rico. Rival fans refuse to acknowledge this and harbor conspiracy theories that transfer fees and wages that City paid for these players are grossly understated.
Even if that were true those players have got to be moulded into a team.
In the '70s I recall Fulham buying some big names (Moore, Best, etc.) and I don't think that they achieved much.
