Im not undersstanding this with some people.

If there is a release clause it surely makes NO difference whether the scousers have given RB money for there lad......a release caluse is just that...any other money they get wont change it....

IF there isnt a release clause we will have a set value.....we have shown time and time again we wont go past this....YOU HAVE TO TRUST the club and the people with the purse strings and PEP on this... We know there are multiple targets for every position....if we dont get Gvardiol we will have another target....or Laporte stays......people forget how good Laporte is..

Ake was on the verge of joining chelsea last summer.....we didnt let it happen and LOOK at how that turned out and Laporte is a superior to Ake with the ball at his feet etc.

Laporte is superior with the ball at his feet , but Ake is the best 1v1 defender, Gvardiol with no disrespect to Ake is very good 1v1 but has superior footballing ability with the ball at his feet just a better Laporte with Akes best strengths.

Also going to take a guess that Laportes playtime is not just down to Ake being the better defender, possibly to do with stuff off the pitch as well.

What exactly is Txiki's budget for this deal? you must surely know to claim he will have had a shocker if he doesn't get it over the line
Haven't got a scooby. But if we don't have the budget to bring the player in, don't go agreeing personal terms with the player beforehand. Most reputable sources say they want a record fee for him, which given his ceiling and the fact he's their prized asset is reasonable. We must know by now whether we can meet said fee.

From the footage I've seen of Gvardiol, he's a better ball player than all our CB's bar maybe Johnny. He breaks the lines better than most central midfielders, and he's ridiculously good at dribbling out of tight situations. He's adaptable, it's easy to see why he's played at fullback. It would be great if we get this done; next season he'll have more suitors and our chances of landing him will be slim.

No, you haven'y got a scooby, but you feel enlightened to say txiki would be having a shocker if he doesn't sign him. He'd be having a shocker if he simply offered the asking price at the get go.

100%

This guy is a generational talent the same as Haaland to miss out would be foolish in the extreme.

Always strengthen when at the top of the tree, NEVER be complacent.
This. I think a lot of our fans have gotten complacent, or dare I say, arrogant. We are the best, so who cares who we sign, right? Pep already said we need to refresh the squad, or we are not going to be able to win the big titles in the future. We think we have the world at our feet, and that we can get top players whenever the need arises, so who cares if we miss out on Gvardiol, because we can just sign whoever we want in a couple of years when the need arises? Mistake. It's a slippery slope. Chelsea won the Champions League 2 years ago, and this year they were 12th in the league. They spent 600m+ and they are still shit. We cannot wait around for our best players to age, and THEN attempt to rebuild. Other than Chelsea, we all saw what happened to Liverpool. We need to keep on adding the best young players in the world for as long as we are in a position of power, and whenever these guys are available, and that's not a lot. If we don't snap Gvardiol up, someone else will, and we won't have that opportunity ever again. We can't rely on our 4th choice signings turning out to be KDB every time. Our current dominance is not going to last forever. Pep has 2 years on his contract, and I think a lot of people are in for a rude awakening once he leaves. We have been integrating the likes of Stones, Gundogan, KDB, and Rodri for years before they peaked with us and took over from our old leaders like Vinny, David Silva, Aguero, or Fernandinho. That's under the best manager in the world, and he is not going to stay with us forever. It's just something to think about.

Wouldn't disagree with any of that but I don't think we miss much if we don't get gvardiol and laporte stays ....nothing defining however

Just a five year extension, perfect!

Let’s see eh. Stop panicking

I'm not panicking at all. If we don't get him, we simply don't get him.

We have a very good defence anyway with very good options.

Doesn't seem like there is much interest outside the premier league for Laporte either so looks like he could stay.

My prediction is: Laporte stays and we don't get Gvardiol.

Laporte doesn't have to go for us to get him anyway I don't think
