Even if he is quality I personally don’t see the reasoning in buying him for over 100 million. We are not screaming for a new central defender except if 2 actually leave cause you can’t keep 5 happy.

We have seen Pep this season rotating centre backs heavily to try and keep everyone happy.
This just feels weird, maybe something is actually happening behind the scenes cause towards the end of the summer we were linked with him.

Wingers and fullbacks would be my priority but I guess the people at the club know what they are doing.

He’s been fantastic on the ball for Burnley, I’d go as far to say he’s already a better passer than Dias, Ake and Akanji

I could see both Ake and Laporte going, leaving Stones, Dias, Akanji plus one other.

Both will have 2 years on their contract and maybe looking not to renew.

I could see Laporte going back to Spain and Ake (who I really rate) would have lots of options.

Harwood Bellis will have a year left after this season, could see him being sold with a buy back or another loan if willing to sign an extension.

Whilst the fee sounds very high, with the sales etc and the way it is accounted it would not prove very difficult and would not in anyway effect money for Bellingham.

I would hope there is also money for a LB, unless City have more faith in Gomez then me, I would like to see a long term solution.

We are not screaming for a new CB but we have no idea if the club or CB players we have are happy.

It would not surprise me if at least one of our CB wishes to leave this summer, maybe even in the January window and if that's the case I would think the club would be very interested in Gvardiol with his age and quality.

To me he'd be a left back and I'd be quite happy if we bought him

I agree with that and can only see us buying him if Ake and Laporte leave, also Walker might be tempted to leave if Sheff Utd go up.
So, If we sign him we would have the money to do it.

If that scenario happens, I wouldn’t be surprised to see us play with 3 CH’s:
Stones, Dias, Gvardiol; with Cancelo and Gomez playing right and left wingback.
We would be solid at the back and that will allow them to attack and provide the width, which plays to both of their strengths.
The midfield would have Rodri holding, Bellingham and Foden playing box to box and KDB roaming wherever he wants and Haaland would have a field day.
That team would be world class imo!

Massively brings down the average age of the team. We replace one or two Centre backs, that are approaching their 30’s.Having had their best years, whilst lowering the wage bill and getting a good financial return on them.
#replace&refresh to stay at the top.

I think we may have been trying to put down a marker, knowing the landscape with a couple of the squad next summer.

The report went very hard, no couching, whatsoever, which makes me believe it has some legs.

We have the money to do him and Bellingham and still be well inside budget.

That Journalist Alfredo Pedulla whos normally good for italian news dont know about Bundesliga but Chelsea fans are taking his word for their transfers said yesterday that City want to conclude the deal for Gvardiol after the world cup .Wouldn't that mean a January transfer? also according to him we want to loan him back until the end of the season.

Would be stupid by Leipzig mind since we play them in the champions league and he's their best defender.

Love Laporte but I think he might be the one to make way.

He'll be 29 when the season ends and has more or less played his prime years with us and given us everything.

His resale value should be 80mil+.. top defender, good pace.

Maybe we can hold onto Ake too.. since most teams don't want to shell out the money for him!

Maybe it will sweeten the deal, make them more likely selling him to us? Replacing best defender mid season is not an easy task.
