Joy Division/New Order

I wasn't comparing sumner's singing to Curtis's, I was just saying that Sumner had a much greater influence on Joy Division's sound, due to his guitars, synths, and his role as the kind of director or arranger of the music. And besides, I do quite like Sumner's singing on Ceremony, it sounds innocent and raw and kind of mournful.
unfortunately his child like singing takes away from the power of the lyrics and the focus of the song
if the lyrics or singing weren't so important they wouldn't be quite revered as they are

Well we'll have to agree to disagree on this one because for me the actual music is far more important than the lyrics. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate good lyrics (like Curtis's) but they are nothing without a good musical backing, whereas there are plenty of fine instrumental tracks.

If you're looking for a Joy Division song to play when the players come out of the tunnel, go with "Incubation."

"Transmission" and "Shadowplay" also would work.
my personal choice would be ceremony
my fave this week. ( it changes on a weekly basis)

we did use it away to blackburn when sven was in charge, there were thousands of city fans outside that fernhurst bar singing " CI-TY.... TAKING OVER YOUR TOWN AGAIN!" thought it was mint.

Regarding the OP, I guess we can't be too precious about other teams singing Manc songs. We sing to the tune of Hey Jude, after all.

Having said that, Joy Division songs should be sacrosanct. The idea of a terrace chant to the tune of Atmosphere (or, even more preposterously, playing it after a goal as someone suggested) is patently absurd.

One of the great bands, proud that Gretton and Curtis were Blues.

Can,t beat Shadow Play-JD.....

Early New Order, gotta be Temptation,Hurt,Everything,s gone green and The Beach.

great band(s)

could we not have a joy division song played as we walk out or when we score. atmosphere is one of the best songs ever.

The opening bars of Atmosphere would work very well as the teams emerge.

i wasnt suggesting to use atmospere, only that it was a fine track ,but the instrumental as they walk out would send shivers down your spine. bluemoon is a bit dated

Yeah Curtis and Gretton were City fans, the rest I think occasionally claimed to be rags but weren't really that into football (despite doing the WC song, they were only in it for the £££),

Top top bands though, Lonesome Tonight by New Order is my favourite song of all time.

just you tubed this song and I love it...any more little gems you can introduce me to ?

have you tried age of consent?

Blue Monday apart, which was groundbreaking in a "British Electro" way as much as anything...and while obviously giving the nod to Factory, the Hacienda and all the rest of it...

Musically,I just find New Order to be one of the most overated bands of all time.
