Spot on.Its all about the potential and I'll stick my neck out and say he's got the lot.

If we can get a good England manager,we could finally see that golden generation properly emerge.
With this current crop of youngsters, England should be competing for every major tournament for the next decade.

With the tactical genius that is Southgate ?

I never really understand when people go off on international managers. Yeah of course he's not world class, none of them are, or they'd be managing clubs getting paid 10x as much.

Didier Deschamps is a joke of a manager, Low is awful, del Bosque was nothing much despite some success with the most star studded club side of all time.

Lippi was a successful club manager to be fair and is the exception, but Scolari was a journeyman at best and Aime Jacquet had failed non stop for 10 years before France won in 98. Carlos Perreira was genuinely a joke, bouncing around middle east management jobs before miraculously landing the Brazil job and just letting Romario loose.

Southgate is no worse than 6 or 7 of the last 8 world cup winning managers, and you could go back further.

International management is not about being a good coach, it's mostly about creating an environment where the players take care of things. Don't got too crazy with formations, call up mostly the right players, try and organise the defence and the rest sorts itself out.

Southgate is fine, he won't be the reason if England aren't successful over the next 4/5 years.

They should.....as long as the right ones,in the right formation, are chosen on form, and not reputation or the club they play for.

@domalino makes a good point.....An England manager is about bringing out the best in the group, getting them to gel and play their best as individuals and as a squad, hence he needs to be someone recognises strengths and weaknesses, and who commands respect, inspires and motivates.

Southgate sounds like the perfectly fit then.

Don't forget picking every available rag and dipper regardless of form, quality or experience.
