Jude Bellingham

I agree with this all, but especially this piece. Maybe people are only watching the highlights and don’t see all the “ugly bits” that happen outside that. We mythicize La Liga, farm the Bundesliga (and assume their players aren’t good enough to stay there), and kind of ignore Serie A (send them our retirees).

He did start the season on fire, but he’s cooled and if our players did that we’d be hearing it till no end.
I have said this before, so I am sure a few will roll their eyes at my repetition, but I have been watching both Premier League and La Liga for 40 years (in the stands and on TV), and I can say with supreme confidence that the Premier League is now a better, much more challenging competition than La Liga for a number of reasons. And that is especially true when comparing the rigours of playing for Real Madrid or Barcelona versus essentially any team in the PL today.

In my opinion, the difference is so pronounced that assessments of individual success at the top level in Spain versus in England need to be weighted to adjust for that gap. Running rampant in the league for six months for Real Madrid is really not the same as what Foden is currently doing, for instance. Or what Haaland did last season. Or what Rodri has done for many seasons now.

But so many treat Bellingham’s performances as equivalent. And ignore the petulance and shitehousery so prominent in his play now.

It is dumbfounding at times.

If Phil would have gone to Madrid he would have a yacht and a few balon whatsits under his name too, but Phil is a footballer who is testing himself in the crucible of the toughest league in the world.

Unlike other players who take the easy route, not knocking them at all it seems a good life and fair play to them but they haven't gone there for the mythical "Footballing reasons" that all the rags and red tops harp about.

I also keep thinking of Josko (I know, I know…not the same skills or position or level of talent) as they were both young, $$$ players linked with both clubs. Now, I can’t imagine either at the other club. Joskos cold Croatian heart and humility would seem misplaced in Madrid. And Jude seems like he relishes the sun and the stage. And maybe it’s good, each found the place that fit them the best.
I think Josko’s apparent earnestness, more than anything, would have made him poor fit for Madrid. I am not sure I have ever seen him shitehouse or actively try to con the ref.

He would have been a fish out of water in the side of petulant, entitled, shitehousing cunts.

I have considered that Real Madrid made the case they are still a far bigger football club than us, and he may have bought in to that narrative, yes.

I am half-Spanish, and am very familiar with the draw of Real Madrid and La Liga (for better and—mostly—worse).

Have you considered for a moment that Bellingham may have also not fancied the very different conditions and demands of the Premier League or playing at City, particularly under Pep?
I have, yes. I think the Pep factor could've been huge, due to the demands that Pep puts on his players compared to the laissez faire approach to football management displayed by Carlo Ancelotti.

Then we agree on that point!

When did he call us a plastic club? Produce the evidence. You're coming across as monumentally bitter. He's an exceptional young player, and if he ever comes to the prem we'd be lucky to have him.

It's embarrassing how some get themselves all riled up and jealous over a young English lad absolutely on top of the world at the moment.

Have VAR reviewed to confirm he (or at least his ego) isn’t actually on top of the moon?

Some may be jealous but I dislike him mainly because of his prick antics on the pitch, if he behaved like a Toni Kroos on the pitch I wouldn't have too much of a problem with him.
