For a few years now Ive kept an interest in Liverpool, it started because my sister-in-law supports them and likes to give it out and I also have a few mates who regularly attend Liverpool games. It's been a source of amusement to me that over the past few years they believe they have been getting closer to the Rags and will challenge for the title. Fair enough they've given it a go this season but I still said a few weeks ago that I predict they will finish a minmum of 12 points behind United by the end of the season and I just can't see Gerrard staying at Anfield for the rest of his career and then they really will be fucked. I find them to be one of the most boring sides to watch considering the supposed quality they possess.

All this begs the question is the Premiership really all that difficult to mount a serious title challenge? I would argue United are out on their own and way ahead of the chasing pack. Chelsea will probaby pick it up again next season but I would argue that if we spend wisely then if Liverpool and Arsenal represent the best on offer after United then I think we can challenge those two next season. This is not based on todays result because I genuinely think the rest of the challengers only just have a little more quality than the rest to remain more consistent but nowhere near enough to challenge United. Add a couple of quality players to our current squad and I think at the very least ourselves and Villa can push Liverpool and Arsenal out of the top four next year, if we can manage to find the right quality within the next two seasons I honestly can see no reason as to why we can't then take it to United and Chelsea (I'm giving Chelsea the benefit of getting it right).

I'd say we're right up with there with them. Then I'll sober up and we'll get beat by West Ham and I'll be suicidal again. Don't you just love them?!!

To be fair we should be challenging, but we arent consistent are we.
I mean fuck sake lose at Stoke/West Brom/Portsmouth then today play like that,I just cant understand it,never have and probably never will.
But it's ok saying its typical City, blah, blah, blah,we are used to it,well am fucking sick of us being called "typical",and that performance today should be a warning as to how things will be in the very near future....hopefully LOL

could agree with most of that. wot i think we all find frustrating is that on our day we can give any of them a game. but we dont know one the day wot citys gonna turn up,

If Petrov returns to the player he was before his injury and we add a centre forward, centre half and an attacking midfielder, i think we could challenge for a top four place. We need time to gel as a team,we can know keep hold of our better players without having to sell, which puts us in a strong position.Selling Anelka,Wright Phillips etc set us back

If we could just sort out our bleeding leaky defence, which i'm starting to think now will come with time and some proper bloody defensive training i think we'd be right up there already. And once we get the defence sorted all we need is a couple of quality squad players for cover and we'll be laughing.

As i said on Feb 2nd. I really do beleive we have the 3rd most talentest squad in the league. The rags are up there on their own and only Chelsea can match them. Liverpool are shockingly average with Gerrard and Arsenal are too young and soft.

The key to mounting a challenge in this league is the belief to win and to do it consistently. The top four all have that and is why they will be up there for the whole season.

I beleive a top manager could get this squad we currently have to be up there around the end of March.
