198 points in 2 seasons suggests they did okStones and Otamendi were fairly pricey (at the time) signings who were meant to lead our defence for 5+ years. We got cumulatively about 1 good season each from them. Given our ambitions and the importance of central defenders, that's at minimum pretty poor.
