How can anyone feel negative about a new signing unless they have witnessed him playing? This is the South American footballer of the year, at 21, a member of the Argentinian squad, 20 goals in 25 games for River Plate, and supposedly £15m; what isn't there to feel hopeful about?

It's a BM thread ?

Personally I don’t feel any negativity or positivity with this potential signing.
I just can’t get myself invested in a player I doubt will be wearing our shirt anytime soon.
Hope he turns out to be fantastic, mind so I can come back on this thread in a couple of years and blag that I knew he was the man from day one...:-)

Let's put this £15mill-£20mill transfer fee for Alvaerz that people are concerned about in to perspective.

City turned down £20miil for Garcia from Barcelona and he went to Barcelona on a free in the end

I don't think City are too concerned about paying up to £20mill for Alvarez considering his age, his recent goal scoring record, and his standing in Argentina and South America.

Hopefully it's already a done deal? If not, hopefully City can get it done before the transfer window closes?(without any other clubs making a last minute bid and attempt to sign Alvarez?)

For me, it is the prospect that he may appear that is exciting. He could turn into a worldy, or he may not play for us but either way, we don't lose.

Genuinely feels like we hear the same kind of praise about loads of past youngsters who've come to nothing. Tim Vickery said Marlos Moreno was a better talent than Gabriel Jesus if I remember correctly.

I'd love to be wrong but this one doesn't feel any different to me yet. All hinges on joining date. If he's nearly 22 and we're not fussed about him joining until the summer or maybe even longer, how good can he actually be?

He's staying until the end of the season as part of the deal. A sweetner.

He comes in the Summer, settles in, preseason training, tour, friendlies, get's to know Pep, the players, the system, the setup, etc.

There's no point in bringing him over now. Our team and squad are settled, they pick themselves, and they're focused on the PL title, CL, and FA Cup.

I can understand the reasoning behind loaning him back to River until their season is over.
But when he finally arrives at the Etihad I don't think he would be too happy if he is loaned out to another club in Europe

Because the match day thread posters don't have anyone to slag off today - apart from a few on the womens team thread who started to then looked like cocks as we won 8-0 haha. They soon scarpered

I cannot understand it to be honest, unless its a dealbreaker in signing him. The sooner he gets here and understands the way Pep wants him to play the sooner he can be an asset to the side. Better players than him have not come into their own until the second season, delaying him arriving only adds to the wait of him being a useful addition.
