I can't understand the reasoning behind it tbqh. We have no bloody striker to call upon at present, and it's resorting to Pep chucking anybody in that number 9 role at the moment in the hope that something clicks. He would be another option to have on the bench even if he's not ready for the first team yet.
actually the reasoning is incredibly easy to understand. if he comes here now he is going to play not so good because of his adaptation period and the he will lose his place and confidence and find himself on the bench and would set him back in adapting to his new life. whereas if he comes after sorting out all his move here and the has a good preseason it is much better for him to adapt also to keep in mind he is fighting for a place in the national team for the world cup. it is simply better for him to wait until the right time to make his adaptation easier and not jeopardize his form and confidence before going to Qatar and from our POV it is not like he can come in and make a instant impact in Europe like say signing a superstar ala haaland so we are happy to let him stay and integrate slowly.

Also we need good rap, having good relation with one of the best club in argentine will be good for us for the next years. I can imagine we will have easier channel to link with their players we've been interested than other club in future.

I can understand @Agueroooo9320s point, even if I disagree with it in large parts. I think the best preparation for him to be ready to contribute next season would be to start his adaption period right away, not delay it until the summer. But the club has made its decision it seems, and I guess they have their reasons for doing so.

I dont buy this "we have to loan him out to keep River happy" BS, its complete nonsense imo. Has never been the case with any other senior player we bought from any other club before, and the whole idea is basically based on the assumption that River Plate is run by 9-year olds who would be angry that one of the biggest clubs in the world is interested in buying one of their players. Its like if we would sign Håland this summer and then loan him back to Dortmund just because it would be important to have a good relation with the perhaps biggest talent factory (bought talents but still) in Europe.

He's staying until the end of the season as part of the deal. A sweetner.

He comes in the Summer, settles in, preseason training, tour, friendlies, get's to know Pep, the players, the system, the setup, etc.

There's no point in bringing him over now. Our team and squad are settled, they pick themselves, and they're focused on the PL title, CL, and FA Cup.

By all accounts it could be longer than the end of the season. Talk of after the WC or even the following June.

Personally if we had any intention of him ever playing for us I'm pretty certain we wouldn't be ok with him playing in Argentina until he was 23 and a half.

I'm not getting excited about this one at all until he's already played a couple of games for us and it's undeniably clear that we see him as a first team City player.

Remember, if he comes this summer we'll almost certainly have the obligatory settling in season of him being a bit crap that almost all Pep midfielders and forwards go through, especially as he's young.

distinct lack of action on this transfer thread, but probably because its one that not really stirring up much excitement just yet. We wont really know any more about the kid until the summer id imagine

So far, the only 'official' line is coming out of River Plate, and they are going with, agreement in place, joins us July 7th.

Yet to hear it from our lot, but doubt they would say something contrary to the deal.

The rest, guessing whether it would be as late as next january or beyond, whether it is dependant on their progess in the cup, after the world cup etc, seems to be just speculation.

So till something says otherwise, I'm treating it as he is on loan till the end of this (our) season, and joins us July the 7th.

I have enough confidence for our club to laid the best plan for him, if they think it is the best if he stay there for a while then it is enough for me. Most of time they have been right when they brought the player here from other club, i trust our club management plan for him.

Also Dortmund analogies doesn't work on here at all.

If there is a positive (there may well be a few) to take from bringing him in next season, could be that it suggests Pep is up for staying beyond his contract end.

If he wanted him up to speed for his last season, he'd be rushing him in now. Or if he was to leave at the end of his contract, maybe wouldnt bother bedding in a new young player untested in Europe and at this level.

Similar can be said for the player's lack of rush to get here.
