Junior Football Coaching Question (update pg2)

Given the nature of the conversation about the general state of youth football and academies, thought you might like to know this.

One of the clubs has asked that he attends a session with a sports scientist to be measure and weighed?

so the big and strong fascination lives on!!

That will never totally disappear, they also look at parent size etc....the Rags X-ray the wrist of there kids to find how dense the bone structure is giving them an indication of skeletal age and a prediction for an end hight, some 9 year olds may have a skeletal age of a 7 year old meaning he has a lot of growing to do....some may have the skeletal age of an 11 year old meaning they may be big now but won't grow much over the next couple of years but the kid with the younger skeleton will and will catch up

Another update and bump as things progress.

The lad is now training with gods own club and today was issued with brand new, full Nike Training kit.

Very nice to see him in it and saves me a small fortune in the club shop :-)

Thanks, I appreciate the replies.

He's not under any pressure so that's fine, I just want him to enjoy himself.

But's he's 5, so if I ask which group/team he likes best and who would he like to play for/with, he changes his mind every 30 secs as he's got friends in both clubs.

Logic does say that playing with own age will be better for the reasons given, but there's also the stance (that's been put to me) that without any challenge he may get bored or not develop?

To give some more background, he plays training games with the older year already and still stands out in that environment, the fact that they're a bit stronger means there are more kids who can keep up with him and tackle him.

There you go .... "he's 5" .... leave him alone and let him enjoy himself. If he has an outstanding footballing talent it will make itself apparent in a few years time. It's far to early in his physical and mental development to pigeon hole him into being a footballer.
