For me Pellegrini is a good manager, maybe not the best in the world but he has the backing of the players and has done a solid job, had we missed out on the champions league then he was gone, but we didn't we got second, I don't wanna swop management every year we come second!
When we face Barca, Real, Bayern it is not the magagement which is our issue but the players at our disposal, don't get me wrong I'm still grinning with glee at the lambo in the driveway, but equally that doesn't stop you looking at the Bugatti in the neighbours driveway.
So very happy if Pellegrini stays however it's obvious he is simply a caretaker manager for a season which isn't great, if results go against us he could easily lose the dressing room and there will be constant speculation on his position which will be destabilising for the club.
So if the question has to be asked given Klopp is available should we appoint him today? For me Pep is the best manager in the world and we would be incredibly lucky to have him in charge however I am not sure he would be as good a fit for our club as Klopp for a couple of reasons,
1) Pep has been fortunate to have teams full of world class players, possibly the best on the planet, he has moulded them into something awe inspiring but Klopp has a history of making good players great and importantly making the most of the resources he has at his disposal. for me Klopp is the right guy for where we currently are as a club and the project under way.
2) Players, I think the players will love Klopp but then equally they would be in awe of Pep and respect his authority. Pep however from everything I've read is very focussed on what he needs from his players and those which do not buy into his vision will be gone. Pep is truly ruthless and single minded, he may not fit into the ethos of our club as well as Klopp, and if results don't go his way I think he could lose the players and club, this season the fractures in Bayern have been clear for all to see!
3) Cost, well Pep would cost us a ton more money on wages however the strength having him as our manager would give us in the players market would probably offset this, Pep is the one manager every player wants to play for, he has almost a cult status among players. That's not to say Klopp would be a issue he's just not Pep, but equally for me players play for cash not the badge the history, pride of playing for a club. If this meant everything to players then real, Barca, Bayern, United would have the smallest wage bills but they don't.
4) Hunger, for me this is the reason why Klopp should clearly be our next manager, city is a step up for him providing him resources and funds that have never previously been at his disposal. He would never see himself as bigger than the club and for him and us winning the champions league would drive him on. Is city the dream for Pep would he ever buy into our club the way Klopp would? Klopp would love us and we would love him.

To Sum it up, happy to stay with Pellegrini but if he is just a caretaker manager (which I suspect is the case) for Pep then I'd personally rather Klopp. You also have to factor into the equation that Klopp is available today whereas Pep maybe fluttering his eyes in our direction but he is not available and he has previously choose not to join us and join Bayern so there is no guarantee that in 12 months we will not be looking for another manager with Pep and Klopp ruled out.......then who do we look at?
Really good post and something for us to think about in relation to Pep. Firstly, I desperately want some stability in terms of management but I have reluctantly come to the conclusion that Pellegrini is not the man for us to move to that next level. Think he has done a brilliant job of bringing harmony to the dressing room and of course he won us the double last year. However, this year has been very disappointing in terms of level of performance and some of the poor results against relegation threatened teams and giving away two goal leads. Pellegrini does not seem to have a plan B or the ability to make game changing substitutions. His change of formation recently was more down to injuries and loss of form than his tactical nous and was long overdue. This formation and a settled back four for a run of games has spoken for itself in terms of results. So the question is do we wait for Pep and carry on with Pellers, bearing in mind that there are no guarantees that Pep will come in a years time or do we go for someone now who will take us to the next level. Of course that might depend on the Real Madrid press conference pencilled in for tonight and therefore Ancelotti's availability. If he is available then we should strike now while we can and get him in and perhaps put ourself in a position where it is Pep courting a move to us in the future rather than the other way round. If Ancelotti is not available do we take a chance on Klopp stepping up to the plate and perhaps creating that stability at the club bearing in mind his record of loyalty etc. or do we put all our eggs in one basket and presume that Pep will join us at the end of his contract. I must admit I am tempted to think we should be proactive and make the change, especially if Ancelotti is available later tonight.

I don't know that Pep is the best manager on the planet. As for Klopp ... has he ever managed a big budget? I know that's not everything but just asking anyway.

Sorry meant no offense, I meant more along the lines that some people haven't witnessed having super enthusiastic coaches. I personally believe that motivating players is almost as important as coaching strategy, and being as crazy as klopp gets is one of the best ways to motivate players imo.

I can't remember anyone blaming Pellegrini for not showing passion last year, yet he was behaving no different than he is now.
I want to believe Txiki will NOT judge a manager for waring a tracksuit and a cap, for jumping around when we score, for wearing a beard, or for waving his arms and legs when to give directions to players. He will judge Klopp (and others) for totally different and actually footballing reasons. So all this crap about being passionate is plain stupid because as far as we know Pellegrini might be much more passionate than Klopp for that matter. It's not just what's been shown from the outside of the man during the 90 minutes.
If Klopp is the right man for us he will hopefully prove so when we do appoint him. And when it comes to entertainment and results I couldn't care less the way he is dressed or behaves. I do prefer the suit though ...

One year on and we're clearly going backwards - we won the league by the skin of our teeth pretty much with Mancini's players which was by far the best squad in the PL and we should have won the league easily not by a Gerrard slip ..... One year on, the defense is going backwards, we're all over the place defending set pieces and there is something clearly lacking, a spark if you like.... Plus an absolute bell-end Toure has been allowed to lead the team out in Kompany's absence, which given his behaviour is a managerial decision that is as bewildering as it is infuriating. Must be great for team spirit when a player that acts like a tw*t gets the captains armband!!.... I could go on about line-ups, leaving Fernandinho on the bench when the team is crying out for his tenacity and energy, all in all Pellegrini has fallen well below the standard and strength of management we need... Enthusiasm the likes of Klopp show is infectious and motivates players, I found myself falling asleep at Pellegrini's press conferences, not inspired at all, equally the players this season do not seem inspired at all!!

HONESTLY YOU ARE THE PERSONIFICATION OF THE MAN CITY FAN WHO BANGS ON ABOUT WHAT WE DID LAST SEASON, THE SEASON BEFORE ETC ..... HOW WILL IT HELP US NEXT SEASON? - STICKING WITH THIS MANAGEMENT AND GLOATING ABOUT WINNING THE DOUBLE IN 13/14? WE HAVE FALLEN WELL SHORT THIS SEASON & PELLEGRINI HAS BEEN FOUND WANTING & NOT UP TO THE TASK IN BIG GAMES IN PARTICULAR .... WE HAVE TO KEEP MOVING FORWARD NOT BANGING ON ABOUT THE PAST, OTHERWISE WE'LL START TO SOUND LIKE MAN UNITED!!!

I read your post in Ian Paisley's voice.

Don't want Klopp, Dortmund are over 30 points off the top of their league & have lost more games than they have won this season. That is not an upgrade.

Go back and look what's happened to his best players the past two-three years.

So finishing 7th is OK then behind the likes of Augsburg? If we finished 7th there would be mass suicide on here.

I think Jay is trying to say that if 5 or 6 of our best players were to leave then we might struggle. Just a thought...

So Bayern came in and took their best players, don't see how that is any excuse for Dortmund to perform how they have done.

Klopp still went out and spent plenty of money, in comparison with everyone except Bayern and they failed. His signings have been poor and for all his tactical nous he didn't cover himself in glory losing in the fashion he has done a few times this year.

Despite selling X, Y and Z and having injuries to A, B and C they should have still done better.

We won't be appointing Klopp so pointless talking about it really.

So Klopp not taking a job this summer (Allegedly) Bayern next summer? Pep see out final year and Klopp not seen as leaving BVB and straight to Bayern now.

Pellers contract up next summer... Yes that works in my brain I'll stick with that Jeff!!

Possible or as part of his severance at Dortmund he might be allowed to take another job for 12 months (the same situation Roberto Mancini found himself before he joined us).

I seriously find it hard hard to believe that two managers would make way for us getting Pep NEXT summer. Who would put their job on hold for a year, for a club you have no relationship to?

When he was asked originally about taking a sabbatical he said no so don't think any restrictions in place on working this summer.

I think Bayern know pep not renewing if they sack him it will cost them £££ pep on a big salary so let him sit out final year.

All guess work on my part but sometimes things just take shape and the pieces fit. I'm sure Klopp wouldn't mind taking a nice break to get the job he wants and both pep and pellers have a year left we'll find out soon enough.

I want Klopp now forget Pep... What are we supposed to do? Tread water for a season? The dressing room will be rife with rumours of Pellegrini going at the end of the season. I see nothing good coming of this situation and fear we could have another mediocre season with more average defending (set pieces have been a joke) and tactical suicide in key games...

I like Klopp and think he would fit perfectly with us because he is nuts. The fact is that quite clearly City have followed the model Barcelona implemented under Cruyff.

Txiki wants to bring that philosophy to us and so the academy has been improved and that style of football is part of it. The last piece of that jigsaw remains a first team fully implementing that football and involving academy prospects. We might be 12 months away from starting to promote young players to first team level and Peps arrival fits with that perfectly. Vieira should be no.2 and then promoted when Pep does his three years.

Klopp will be able to do what he wants but I don't think we are interested because the board want pep.

Pellegrini has a year left and I don't think managers going into their final year cause as much chaos as people imagine. Heynkes got Bayern performing alright for him. Pep did okay with barca. Pellegrini has the respect of the team and that would remain even if they knew he was off. It might even get more out of them.

That scenario went pear shaped under Keegan, he gave us the heads up that he wouldn't stay......... we were shite that season as a result!

This needs nipping in the bud now, its shambolic

Let's hope that the club know the real story as this is looking more like a disaster by the day......

Whilst aknowledging winning couple of titles with Dortmund (also relegated Mainz) ......can't see all the fuss about Klopp? .......the latest 'next big thing' that has managed one of the top european sides yet......maybe another Ramos / AVB who knows!

Once yer know a manager is coming to the end then yer often see a tailing off across the board.

yes and danger is we could go further downhill next season if Liverpool get their sh*t together in the transfer window we could be fighting for 4th place in PL, Mourinho will not be standing still, he's a ruthless son of a bitch ....

Rife with rumours?
They will all be informed if Guardiola is on his way.

I actually don't think it will be much of a problem, if anything it could be a nice incentive for the players. Go out there and win the league and show off your ability to arguably the best manager in the world who will be coming in.
