Jury Duty

You can be excused if you have a criminal record.
Somehow managed to have avoided one thus far.
Well you'd better get a shift on then.

You could tell them you're a member of a religious order that either requires seclusion or forbids you from passing judgement on your fellow humans as only God can do that.

You could claim (as my dad successfully did) that you are hard of hearing (which he was) and therefore you wouldn't be able to follow proceedings properly.

Narcolepsy or Sleep Apnoea sounds a good excuse, particularly if you fall asleep on your first day.

Or you could right back to them expressing your delight at being selected and specifically request that you would love to serve on a jury trying some black, Asian or Muslim as you know they're all criminals and would love to send them down.

-- Wed Jan 16, 2013 11:37 am --

Ah, to spend the day playing JOTL would be quite fun I suppose.

When I did jury duty one of the guys did 3 days and then said he had to be at home as he had a new baby so he got out of it . I hated it .

I know people who have done it that really enjoyed it. Suck it up you big girl !

Get out it if you can, it's the most boring thing I have had to do. Endless hours sitting round waiting to be called, praying for 2pm to roll around (the cut off point) only to be called in at 1:30pm to then sit through days of mundane detail.

It's yawn-tastic. Did it 10 years ago. Had 2 cases in the 10 days I was there - a mugging and a suspected drug dealer. First case was over in minutes as the main witness, (the victim), shit it and wouldn't appear in court. The second one last 2 days. The other 7 days were spent doing fuck the fuck all. The only thing good to come out of it was they fucked up with work and I got paid by my employer and the expenses covered by the courts, when really your employer isn't meant to pay you whilst you're there. I would rather have been in work though, it's that boring.

You could get a juicy murder case though and have to be put up in a hotel and kept away from the public, or us in other words. I fucking hope that happens you ****! ;-)

A nice juicy complicated VAT fraud case needing months is just what the doctor ordered!

Some folk love it.the jury i had for my trial refused to come to a verdict for two days.had sit about court from 9am till 12 then 1 to 5 first day and til half 2 the next.i met a juror recently who recognised me n said "we knew your were not guilty but none of us wanted go back to work thurs n Fri.also we got a cracking lunch each day." He did buy my a pint n a chaser tho.
