It's as bad as losing a family member... he was 13 and called Chester, I took this just before the vets arrived. I couldn't watch and let my parents deal with it. Dogs are the most amazing thing in the world.

Feel your pain mate but at least he won't be in any pain now and up he'll be chasing rabbits in doggie heaven.

Sorry to hear about your loss, our dog is now 14 1/2, suffering arthritis but keeps on going, dreading the day when he departs or when we have to make a decsion.

feel for you....

When i was 15 i left my house to go to school with my old dog in the kitchen (bout 14) he was a black lab, i grew up with him, he was my best friend, i came home after noticing he wasnt in the house i asked my dad (who appeared rather upset) wheres "sutty"? he said he took him to the vets for a check up and had to have him put asleep (he had bad artheritis(sp?) they found cancer lumps on him and they said to put him down) i was gutted i just lost my best friend and didnt even get to say goodbye, the next few weeks were terrible for me because i would find his fur in my room or a toy outside and it would set me off..

upsets me writing that, miss him loads. some people dont understand but like you said its like losing a family member.

Sorry to hear that mate, don't feel embarassed or ashamed about grieving for the old fella, its perfectly natural. Dogs show so much love and loyalty they dont deserve such short lives.

I dont mind admitting I've shed more tears whenever one of our dogs have died than when any of my family members have died.
