This game will have as far reaching consequences as any another in our history.
I believe united have expended all their energy this season in trying to hold back the tsunami that is City. In doing this they have exhausted themselves in the process, which is why they have taken four points out of twelve at such a crucial time.
Go to St James and win on Sunday and I can see the league being all but over a couple of hours later as I believe that would break whatever spirit they have left. If we falter, however, then this will doubtless inspire them and it's difficult to see any other outcome than them retaining the title.
Whilst I do not see the second scenario as fatal to our chances next season there is no doubt these last three or so weeks will serve as a warning to united and they will strengthen in the summer, much more than if we had faded away as we looked like we were going to after the Arsenal game. In that sense we have raised the stakes for ourselves, but there you go, we are where we are.
Win at Newcastle and going on to win the league, after being eight points behind will have such a profound psychological impact on the next few years in this city, and consequently the world of football. It will mark our team as a great one, and one to be truly feared like united were in the late nineties or Chelsea were seven or so years ago.
Go to Newcastle and win with a swagger and I reckon the shockwaves will be felt right across Europe. What an incredible time to be a City fan.
