Isnt that a possible indicator for precipitation? I'm trying to remember my science and/ or geography lessons from school...

Yes. Low pressure = bad weather.

The cold weather we are having is due to position of high and low pressure systems feeding cold air to us from the East.

Normally we get mild and wet weather from the Atlantic

Hi,

Although the temperatures are above freezing, there is still the threat of snow because of the dewpoints. If the dewpoint is below freezing any precipication that falls will be of the snow variety

Good news is that today has been warmer than predicted, but however, we still could see some snow after 6pm when the next front comes in, bringing with it cold air.

Just have to see how tonight pans out, but hopefully the game will be going ahead.

I will be interesting to see the crowd tomorrow as the advance sales don't look great on the official site, i will be amazed if we get more than 40,000, i personally don't think the game should go ahead, it's awful out there.

Awful? If you're an able bodied adult then stop being a bloody wuss.

If I'm totally honest, I hope it gets postponed as if it goes ahead, I'm going to have to risk coming from deepest darkest North Wales as I just HAVE to try and get there, no matter what conditions are like. Non footy friends think I'm mad but I just can't imagine missing a game just in case the weather and roads are bad...

That's interesting. I knew what dewpoints were - temperature at which you get 100% humidity - but didn't realise that had anything to do with precipitation. I'm not aware of any fronts moving in. There is a warm front in the Channel.

You've been watching too much TV drama.

You clown. Awful? Really? Are you sure? Last time I went out it wasnt that bad if you actually took the slightest bit of care.

I'm travelling up from Derby tomorrow for the game. Cannot wait for another win under Mancini.

Fuck forecasts. Snow for our part of the country cannot be forecasted accurately unless it comes from the NW, even then it's not 100%. Nowcasting is about as good as it gets.

I've only been following the weather closely over the last few days in the light of the Utd, Boro and Blackburn games, but what you say sounds very true. The weather warnings for snow have been very inaccurate / misleading, but generally I get the impression that the general short-term forecasts are good

like you i have been watching them closely this week
invariable they are often right as they are wrong
forever changing their predictions so i have given up and just look out of the window

Conditions have improved immensely in the past few hours. The snow is slowly beginning to melt, very, very slowly. The temperate hit a sweaty 4'C in Manchester today, which is helping. Any major roads are now slushy at worst, clear at best. I can see the game going ahead. As the club seem to have cleared the bulk of the snow off the Sportcity site, the little left will no doubt be melting as we speak. Obviously there's 24 hours to go yet, but I've give the game a 70% chance of going ahead.

I haven't been near the stadium, but I presume it's the same around the whole of Manchester.

Who makes the decision? Committee of Club, Council, & Police?

Similar conditions to Stoke on Boxing Day

Disadvantage: Night game

Advantage: Few travelling fans, & smaller crowd

I am getting more confident about the game getting the go-ahead

I'm driving up to Crewe for a meeting tomorrow morning and will be staying up in Manc for the game fingers crossed its on cant be arsed driving all the way back to the big smoke!!!
