Juventus (A) | CL | Post Match Thread

There is more chance of me starting in central midfield than Nunes, forget about it mate, Pep won't change his mind.
Nunes has legs but I would never fancy him in a 50/50 which atm we are truly dreadful at.

For me that's the crux of the issue. For years we have seen the club plan and build, move players on and bring in quality replacements (Dias for Kompany etc).

Yet for the last few years complacency and a change of attitude from continuously building for the future to not even bothering to address these glaring issues and becoming the 'net spend champions' has happened.

I don't think you can reduce it to the club wanting to be net spend champions.

I think they have been conscious over the shit thrown at the club, that all we do is spend money etc, and the club has proven them all wrong, again.

This is our first extended bad period in near 10 years. So the club can't be criticised over their decisions too much.

Gundogan is right - we're doing 90% of what we need to do and getting caught out.

Haaland should score first half and the first goal contains another error.

There was no need to play quicker etc, we created sufficient openings to score. It's just a fraction or so off. Juventus played it tight and took their opening - Haaland and Doku need to get an understanding as it has cost us again.

But as ever, how we attack is how we defend. The second goal is a poor give away and then panicked running that leaves a gap for Danilo to pass into, from there we're in trouble.

The only difference I would make is calming the press down. I'm convinced the high press era of football is coming to an end, with teams & systems better suited against it. A majority of the PL teams are now more of a threat when they have less possession.

David Mooney said on his pod that we need to basically be spot on 90% of the time to win with the way we play whereas the opposition only need to be spot on 10-15% of the time. It's right - our methodical progression requires clinical finishing but the limitations we have in our midfield/defence/OOP formation mean that we give really good chances to the opposition. Until we change that approach (in both attack & defence) or change the personnel, it will be the same outcomes

He had a 5 minute cameo against Wolves where he showed more physicality than the rest of our midfield bar Kovacic all season.
