Kalidou Koulibaly

Napoli's campaign finished some time ago, we have not made any official bids, and the transfer stories around it had dried up even before the Messi situation took over everything.

All of that coupled with the facts that:
-The player has never said he wants to come to city in the slightest.
-The player has previously said he wants to finish his career at Napoli.
-ADL has a price which he will not drop.
-We have a price that we will not go above.
-We have had extreme problems in dealing with them in the past.
-They have failed to sign a replacement.
-We have been unable to shift any of the players we allegedly want to (Stones, Otamendi, Garcia, Zinchenko, Angelino)

I also suspect we will not sign anyone whilst the Messi stuff is ongoing as the senior team will be focussed on that, any other signings would be completely overshadowed and given the fee/potential outgoings involved in that deal the areas we need to reinforce/strengthen afterward might have changed dramatically.

Gives me the impression that this is not a transfer that is going to happen, if you disagree then fair enough.

Good post, but I really hope your wrong because it's absolutely fundamental we get a central defender in, whether it be KK or a other.

Is Ghoulam the leftback that wrecked his knee playing against us? He looked a cracking player prior to that injury.
He was brilliant in both games vs us until his injury. It was no coincidence they went downhill in the 2nd game after he went off. Not sure how he has been since the injury but he was some player a couple of years ago

Strange as I thought he ended up missing the entire season, but just found this:

In November 2017, Ghoulam suffered an anterior cruciate ligament rupture in a Champions League group-stage fixture against Manchester City, and was expected to be ruled out for at least two months; in January 2018, however, he underwent medical tests and resumed training ahead of schedule

I know he’s just signed a new contract, but couldn’t we offer Leipzig £80 million + Angelino for Upamecano, forget about Messi and KK.

Upamecano's older release clause was £54m. His new release clause post extension is about £40m (from next summer). If we really wanted Upamecano I think we would have taken him by now. Good relations between Pep and Nagelsmann so he could be staying away from their best players

Hate that greedy Napoli owner

Wonder how long he keeps this up, Napoli do need money after all, and a year from now Koulibaly will cost barely half of what he's asking, much as he thinks he has the upper hand because the profile we need is best fitting Koulibaly, he will do himself and the club harm if he doesn't take an already high fee offered.
