Kalidou Koulibaly

I think this is still the safest bet we have put in a defender so far after Walker.

Mendy - Young , Fast but unproven and injury prone
Stones - Young , good with the feet. Homegrown in a mediocre Everton Team
Mangala - Porto Portuguese league enough said
Otamendi - Proven to a certain extend but again a mediocre Valencia side
Cancelo - Couldn't book a place in the Juventus side

And we have thrown enough money around on these players. So the deal being touted right now is reasonable considering what ADL wanted and the glaring issues in our defence.

Having said that Pep or Txiki should make the defence scouts answerable if this signing also fails. They have been more of a failure than anyone else, with not one defence target which can be easily obtained , is reliable and haven't cost us a bomb

add> Mendy - distribution is gash...

MDM he was reliable, we could totally rely on him to be shit with that big smile that did not cost a bomb, but on the Koulibaly story it is in the media that City have agreed terms with him and will increase his wages by double? but this is a rehash of a story from weeks ago, and regardless of what comes out of Italy, i would have expected the agent to have announced an agreement and the press to refer to it ? but Koulibaly is training with the reserves?

Someone on here said a week or so back this this guy would be on a plane September 5th

I’m sure it was on this forum

Players pick a club and blank the rest
Just like Jorghino did eh ? The agents and selling club will listen to whoever offers the most money. Just like when we were in for Fred and United gazumped us (not saying we didn't dodge a bullet with either but your theory doesn't stand up).

That's down to the player though, it doesn't change our approach to transfers.

We need KK to force this transfer bit more lowering the asking price.
Whoever blinks first loses.

De Laurentiis was clever to set the price so high with 90m euros quotes. He knew he would not get that, but will make Txiki happy if he can lower it to 70-75m euro. Which is probably what Laurentiis wanted anyway.

If you wanna sell a house you set the price bit higher than what you want to get, and then buyers will feel good about themselves after you let 10-20K off the price ending up exactly where you wanted to be. :)

Even 70 euros is too much imo for him at age 29, after a mediocre seasons with Covid pushing prices down. But we need a top CB, and if the club thinks its him to fill the gap that is their decision it has to work out much better tho than Stones, Otamendi etc otherwise Txiki needs to answer.

It can cut both ways - some players - or more likely their agents will go for the highest offer no matter where it comes from - others want to join a specific club and a higher offer will be rejected - if they buy into a manager or a particular plan. A few clubs including ourselves tried to offer Havertz more money but he wanted Chelsea and wasn't going to be dissuaded.
