Kalidou Koulibaly

Bought Dinho when he was 28. Nice little short term solution there. Most elite CBs stay world class well into mid 30s and Koulibaly is an absolute physical specimen. That's a solid 5 years. That's not short-term in football. Besides 10 yr plans rarely ever work out in football.

Comparing apples and oranges. We didn't smash our transfer record to get Dinho. It's price that's the issue and funds which are not infinite.

Getting a 28 year old is absolutely fine. Koulibaly is one of the very best defenders there is. At the right price he would brilliant, however the club isn't going to throw outlandish sums since it's clear that's not our strategy.

Then we need to change our strategy. We broke our transfer record for Laporte and now he's worth his weight in gold. We're not getting the next Kompany for a pack of crisps. This is not the time for bargain-hunting because we can't do speculative transfers for this position anymore. Whoever we sign has to be absolutely world class from day 1.

The club has broken the record fees for RB, LB, CB & GK under Pep. We do pay outlandish fees, and IMO we've got it right every time.

The fact we've not quite got up to the 80, 90, 100m mark is not IMO because we've got a policy against it, but because players worth that haven't been available. If Mbappe hadn't turned us down, I don't doubt we'd have dropped the £120m on him.

The fact we haven't spent 9 figures is not a reason why we won't in the future.

Personally I think KK would be gettable for around the £85m of Maguire.

We're not paying 100 million for a 28 year old defender, regardless of how good he may be.
Ushited pay that because Eddie Fourplanks is a horrible football CEO and they get absolutely scammed in the market.

Yes, things aren't as great as they were last season and the one before that, but we need to stop flapping and calling for short term solutions.

I dont see one of the top 3 defenders in the world as short term especially as hes now st his peak. That's good sense.
And the market is already gone. We can sit on our hands and stick with john fucking stones the peaky blinder and otamendi or flex the muscle we have and make a big fucking statement. I'd personally rather see both garcia and hwb both get promoted to first team as imo they are both better than what we are currently playing irrespective of age but pep has proven that's not going to happen so the flipside of the coin is if koulibaly is available we simply must get him.

We'll start the bidding at £60m, then pull out when it goes over £70m,
Surely Txixi realises by now we've got too pay the going rate if we want the best, I mean if slabhead cost £85m, then £100m for a far superior player is a no brainer

Slab head is younger, homegrown and prem proven, which pushed up his price. Plus Leicester did not need the money, nor did they want to sell. We were also interested in buying Slabhead. It was not as simple as his price just being reflective of his ability.
70 million would be a great deal for Koulibaly, 80 milling would probably be fair in the current market. Any more would be because we are desperate.

We're not going to break our transfer record by 40 odd million signing a 28 year old centre half in January, guys. That's the very definition of panic buying. We'll be fine once Laporte returns anyway.

If that comes down to around 60-70 mill, Txiki might have a go.

Koulibaly and panic buy should never be in the same sentence.

The guy is world class, and would be a magnificent signing.

When we paid 30m for Fernadinho people thought we were off our heads, crazy money they said!

He was a bargain, a wonderful signing and a bargain.
