Kalidou Koulibaly

I guess we are also responsible for dragging this out is because we are decidingly getting in bed with a club where we never win and then try to cheap out on a few millions.
I am not saying 70 million for a 29 year old is fair but that's what the market is and ADL is known to be shrewd.
If we don't have the money let us please move to a different target for crying out loud.
I may be called as spoilt but after the messi saga and this I am really exasperated and just wanna see some transfer to happen!

The longer this goes on the bigger a joke it becomes. Surely there are better options out there for 70mill ffs

70m for a 29 year old?

Covid

Really?

It's expensive and a bit of a risk, but it's not completely unreasonable. COVID clearly that much of a factor in this market - that was obvious when we signed a CB from a relegated club for £40m.

Koulibaly is the same age as Van Dijk and, bar a bit of inconsistency this season which has effected the whole Napoli team, isn't far off in terms of ability. KK is certainly in the small bracket of truly world class CB's - the number of which are actually available is even smaller.

If Van Dijk became available for €100m would you not go for it because he's 29? I'm certain City would and for €25m (including add ons) less, we can get a player that isn't much worse and will likely elevate his performance surrounded by the quality we have at City.

I'm at the stage of thinking where it's better for us to spend an extra €10/15m on the exact profile we need, rather than cheap out and go for another option at €50/60m that might do the job, but has some clear drawbacks (i.e Diego Carlos and his recklessness).

Koulibaly is seasoned, a leader, fast, physical and great on the ball. There aren't any other options in the market that meets the criteria, so we need to just get this deal done and dusted in my eyes and stop threating over the fee.

Cheeky, if you don't think he's worth the €70m, close the book on him and try for someone else. Don't fuck about do now, time is of the essence

€70m is equivalent to £62m, only 4m above his market value according to Transfermarkt. He's one of the best CBs in the world, we're not getting him for 50-55m when we paid 40 for Ake and Burnley are quoting that for Tarkowski.
It's not just the price, your dealing with an idiot, who took the piss 2 years ago with Jorinhio , don't let him do it twice.

If VVD was available for 100m yes he is worth it, proven at this level.

Koubaily looks quality, but in the Italian league , Ashley Young, Kolarov, Smaling look good , I like the look of the guy, but it's a risk.

VVD came from a relegation threatened Southampton and prior to that was in Scotland. He was far less proven at the top level than Koulibaly who's been a Champions League level player for years.
He was outstanding at Celtic, the same at Southampton, went for big money and has proved to be a wonderful signing and World class CB
That's proven and would cost serious cash. Koubaily is 29 and just had a difficult season by his standards.

As said before it's not only the cash, it's who we are dealing with, that's the issue here.
