Kalidou Koulibaly

"The transfer window opened the day after the season finished, on Monday, July 27. It will run for 10 weeks and closes on Monday, Oct. 5 before the UEFA competition squad deadline the following day."

Lots of time..

Don’t agree at all. The season starts in 10 days and any new signings coming in late wouldn’t make a difference for the first weeks, as they’re trying to get a grip of new tactics. No preseason or any preparation. Far from ideal, especially if Chelsea and Liverpool get off to a good start.

I hope Kouliably joins next week at the latest to get a grip of how we play.

Another big worry with him is the amount of fouls he gives away in dangerous positions ... something he's been critised for over in Italy.
Yeah I agree, he definitely fouls a lot, but I don't think that's something the manager can't just help him avoid. Plenty of experience so probably won't be a big issue. He doesn't shy from a tackle.

If you've seen Koulibaly play then he is absolutely not slow, and 29 isn't that old, he is a world class defender
He had a poor season last year, no one should kid themselves he did not. Napoli had serious issues, could be the reason, let's hope it is, the last thing we need now is to blow 60 m on another poor defender.

This is the most important signing this summer, a make or break in terms of success, Messi is the cherry on the top, but this position will cost us dear AGAIN, if not sorted, regardless if we have Messi in the team.

I dont think we toss money away on poor defenders. I think our lack of defensive organisation is the cause of our problems.

In fairness neither does Otimendi

Stones, Cancelo, Meny, Danilo all poor defenders in my opinion.

We are tested in very few games a season, when teams do attack us, our defenders are found wanting, Walker and Laporte apart.

I think that’s a bit harsh on Cancelo - he had to settle in, hasn’t yet been given a run on the right and has been excellent on the left when played there.
