We don’t have anything. We have Rodri and a 17yr old Lavia.
People do realise we aren’t signing him to replace De Bruyne right?

Exactly. How may other quality DMs are available for sub 50 mil? Plus he' knows the Prem and will not demand a start every game I expect..

No just no he is not an upgrade on what we have.
Which is, if we're talking CDMs? Rodri is first choice, then who? One of the EDS lads? We don't have an abundance of players in that position who are first team ready. If Rodri gets an ACL injury in the first game of the season, who's going to step up and play pretty much a full season? Or do we go down the "square pegs in round holes" again (ie Fern at CB, numerous false 9s). I'd hope that Pep and the board have learned from these previous issues.

This may actually be true.

For a CDM, about the only thing missing from Rodri's game is Kyle Walker like speed. I suppose he could be a little bit more aggressive but he is big and strong, technically able, reads the game increasingly well: he has developed that ability to be in the right place at the right time. Also, he can put the ball in the net.

Rodri is on the verge of being the best CDM in the world, he may be there already. Time will tell on that but he is one of the best.

Kalvin Phillips is better at the shuttle run type defnsive work and has a bit more grit. He is also good technically though. I've said before that I think he and Rodri can play together both a double pivot but Rodri has the tools to play as an 8.

With Dinho going and also being very much the wrong side of his peak, Kalvin Phillips would improve the squad if he chooses to come to City. If he doesn't, there will be alternatives but very, very few that are English and it is important to a good number of English players in the squad. Rice is the obvious English alternative but far too expensive.

Hopefully they have,However im entitled to an opinion and i do not rate Phillips,i am sure we could discuss lots of players and all come up with players we rate and dont rate.

I think many seem to think he is replacing prime Fernandinho. Or maybe he is replacing Frenkie de Jong who has effecrively been our player ever since twitter said Barcelona are were interested in Sterling.

Philips alledged release clause was only dependent on relegation, so Leeds would want nearer 40 mil for him, Barca have, already if reports are correct decided to take a loss on DeJong to the tune of £15M so would be available for around £50M.

For me no brainers, philips wouldn't get a look in if these reported figure were true.
You have to take salaries into consideration. Over a 5 year deal, FDJ would most likely cost more than twice as much as Phillips all costs included. Its like when some retarded Rag fans came to the conclusion Varane is/was almost half as cheap as Arsenals signing White last summer, when he will cost them twice as much when you include salaries.

With that said, could FDJ be worth more than twice as much as Phillips? On pure talent alone, perhaps he is. But is it worth spending that amount of money, and more in particular give a KDB/Haaland level salary, on a player thats probably not a given starter in our best midfield 3 (Rodri-Silva-KDB)? Not so certain.

With that said, I can fully understand if some dont rate Phillips and would prefer us to sign someone else. But dont fool yourself thinking the cost for Phillips and FDJ is even remotely similar, just because the transfer fees might not be miles apart.
