Kalvin Phillips

Pep clearly has zero trust in him so we're essentially down another squad player.

It's all well and good pep being happy for him to stay and try and get himself in, I admire the desire to want to stay and succeed from phillips but if pep doesn't trust him as much as it would seem, he has got to be ruthless here and tell him to go and bring in somebody who he trusts enough to actually use.

No chance we should sell him in January, won't get anywhere near a decent price for him after 18 months with hardly any football. Bids will be laughably low. loan will be our best option then hopefully he plays regularly, plays well and we get some respectable bids in the summer. Newcastle would be a good fit for him imo.

There's a good player there in the right team and there's potentially a lot of value in him especially being english.
The perfect fit for him would of been Henderson s replacement at Liverpool , similar limited ability players

The player who didn't get picked, the player who has been ok in previous, recent cameo appearances, the player who is one of the first choices for England, getting all the grief again.

Should have played yesterday.
Could have been his big turning point moment. The way Pep was approaching it - all was lost anyway.

He is utter gash and will NEVER start in this team, a horrible signing, even the best make mistakes.

This tells me that KP isn't showing enough in evolving during training sessions. It was made blatant when Pep said Phillips is good for games like where Rodri got sent off, basically saying he is just a runner & battler. Pep can be unreasonable most of the time, but he puts a huge emphasis on training & it's shown in the fact he has seen in training that Rico has ability to do certain things & put him in at the biggest stage to do it.

100%. He's done at City, he just doesn't want to admit it yet. He has seen others struggle in their first seasons and then improve and felt it was possible for him. But no one struggled to the extent they never played, and sadly that was his situation. He had a baby on the way too and maybe didn't want the upheaval of moving last summer. I'd love for him to fight his way into the side and become an important player for us, but it's very unlikely. He'll get my support whenever he's on the pitch though.

Depends what his objective is though.

It's clear he's just a squad member here with minimal playing time

Maybe he doesn't even care at this point and just raking in the money. Not every player has the same goals, or their motivation changes as they get older, have different responsibilities in life etc.

He spent a lot of his career in the championship. Now he's the best premier league club, probably earning far more than he once thought he would. Its understandable why someone may want to cling onto that at the expense of playing more football. Its a relatively short career. You may only be an injury away from retirement or a couple of poor seasons at another side and you could be back in the second tier.

If he is still here next season, I'd say he's chucked the towel in, in terms of his aspirations of still playing regular football and he is just cashing in on a position he's ended up in here.

Good post.

He may end up like Micah Richards at Villa. He was finally paid off after not playing a game for over two years and in that period he earned 3.3 mill. Phillips has nearly five years left on his contract....gulp

Might even go in January. We have to bite the bullet, continue to pay his wages and loan him out. What chance has this guy of getting on the pitch when we have a full squad?
