Rodri had Fernandinho to compete against before, I don't think Kalvin had anything to do with it. Rodri is just a student of the game, never stops working and learning from Pep.

Regardless Rodri still takes Philips seriously hence why he still keep improving and will bench any his incoming backup even if Philips is no longer in here.

He looks a lot fitter, he played alright for England but I think the majority agree that it was and still is a strange signing and he's unlikely to make it. But he wanted to stay, he seems to have got himself back in shape and let's see how it goes.

I think Rodri is the glue around which City prosper.
He was drained dry at the end of last season (his performances for Spain were also immense, but tiring).
City cannot let this happen again.
When he is hopefully rested, who can replace him ?
Phillips with caretaker Kov, could be the ideal deputies ?

If we want to see how he copes, he needs to be starting with ten regular starters, so the team is already fully functioning around him.
